It is going to work as long as you are ok with eventually losing the lower bumper. I kicked around the idea of an s10 based street/rallycross car a while back. I had a hard time ignoring the two door blazer. It weighs 500lbs less and has a 22" shorter wheelbase than the extended cab truck.

The most Xtreme part of these trucks was the attitude of the owners
I kind of remember the owners from my high school days only fitting two "Xtremes":
A. Males who had that "Xtreme" attitude and often had an affinity for making sure the ground was illuminated under their vehicle, APC windshield banners and those thick chrome wiper blades, subwoofers and the crazy headunits that were all the rage at that time, and music made by clowns from Detroit that drink Faygo.
B. Spoiled females whose parents bought them a brand new one, and were completely oblivious to both its umm "significance?" and how it would behave when ice or snow was on the ground.
This thread inspired me to revisit the Xtreme. After putzing through some pictures on forums, I hate to admit that I kind of don't mind them in Blazer or non-stepside bed S10 form in Navy or Black without the tacky optional racing stripes. I also just learned that in 2004, when GM pulled the plug on the S10 Xtreme (and all S-pickups that weren't crew cabs), they also ditched the Xtreme exclusive split 5 spoke wheels. The Blazer Xtreme soldiered on for 2 more years using the 5 spokes that went on non-Xtreme ZQ8 trucks. They look much better.
I might be the only one, but I have to push my pro-Ford agenda here; I'd prefer a Ranger Splash.
