I'm finally ready to take the leap into a "real" radio communication system... I've done all the ghetto options so far and I've even gone as far as trying the Chatterbox GMRS-X1 which turned out to be barely better than ghetto and a LOT more expensive.
I'm currently looking at the Sampson Vertex SR200 from SafeRacer:

Any comments or suggestions for alternatives?
One thing you may want to consider carefully is what track's you'll be using this at. The longer the distance from the pits/the hillier etc. the geography is, the more oomph you'll want the radio to have (this is the perennial 4watt versus 5 watt versus 20 watt question.) Before we bought our system, my Dad and I spent a bunch of time talking to guys in the paddock to pick their brains on what worked for them etc., and with the folks at Sampson directly. Niot a plug, but they were really helpful.
