Hypothetically if a person was going to start with a wagon for a engine swap, and wanted to start with a light weight chassis what would you choose?
According to Wikipedia my corolla wagon weighs about 2028lbs. That just seems really light for a wagon. What other wagons are lightweights?
Any year restriction? My 67 Opel Kadett lists curb weight of 1724lbs.

FWD? RWD? AWD? Doesn't matter because you own a welder?
Any year or size restrictions?
Basically, anything before the 70's is going to be much lighter. Rust holes help for that as well
Datsun 510's are pretty light at 2127lbs
My (former) 1983 Civic wagon suggested a curb weight of 1650-1720lbs.
e30 wagon? Not sub 2k like others suggested but definitely sub3k.
VW Fox wagon? Just saw one posted the other day
93-95 Saturn SW1/2. The heaviest one (auto/AC/ABS/leather/power everything) comes in just below 2500 IIRC. Lighter ones are 22xx I imagine (SOHC, Manual, no ac/abs/power, all cloth, no rear swaybar, smaller tires, etc.)
You could get a sub 2500lb manual wagon from Saturn up to '02
Base Impreza wagon in the mid 90s was fairly light (27xx). If you aren't keeping the AWD I'm sure there some weight to be saved there.
Datsun 1200 wagons are 1600lbs but super rare.
I bet there are some JDM Kei cars that are wagons and are extremely lightweight. The Suzuki Wagon R lists 1587-1808 as weight.

LIGHT weight was the request
Suzuki Esteem should be around 2300lbs and I think they look pretty good.

My 81 Corolla wagon feels pretty light compared to others. What do you want to fit in it.

No year restriction. After seeing your kadett wagon in your build thread, a kadett wagon is going on my random search list to own one day.

I think you'll struggle to find many lighter than a Mini Clubman.
In reply to Cactus :
But you posted a Countryman, not a Clubman. MINI really mixed up the naming convention .

My Fox wagon weighed 2075 with GTI snowflakes and probably around 100 lbs of speaker box in the hatch. Still regret selling.....19 years later

You might (might) be able to swap an engine in the back, maybe. Like physically place one there for storage or something. Underhood is really tiny!
You might be able to find an RX-3 wagon, those were under 2000lb. And since you can fit a rotary, there's no need for an engine swap. But bring a lot of money, they are really hard to find. They were only sold for one year and had the more problematic twin distributor engine and they rusted like Mazdas.

There is a fox wagon on fb marketplace
Vega and Pinto wagons were pretty light.
