And, in the words of Jeremy Clarkson, that car is a Van Gogh

I'd want that black Maserati whatever that Jeremy tested and seemed to have trouble keeping planted. If i wanted to ermmmmmm any car, that would be it.

3000 lbs according to the internets. So the new Scuderia Spider is 200lbs heavier but also a convertible.

I would get one of these:

Too scary, unforgiving and uncomfortable for rich douchebags, too unreliable for anyone trying to keep up their image at the country club, just right for beating any other wheeled vehicle that doesn't need its engine and tires pre-heated.

That's 480HP and 1100lbs, BTW, and it also has to stand up to 3Gs cornering and braking and more than its own weight in downforce. Just make sure you keep the front winglets attached or it'll be understeering all over the place like it did on Top Gear.

She may be a little piggey, but I don't mind a car with a little bit of heft behind her as long as she can perform. Besides, what is light anyway? Last time I checked, I thought 200 pounds was pretty heavy--that's about the most I can lift off the ground. Should 2000 pounds be light? Sure, the Miata's close, but it's also 4 feet shorter and 2 feet narrower than the mighty stallion from our Italian friends.

Remember, it's a real car that can be driven on real roads. It has a windshield, more than one seat, and a convertible roof (I bet a hardtop-only version of this car would be under 3,000).

But yeah, for paying well over $100,000, shouldn't I get something a little better than Chevy's $60,000 Corvette? Other than the matching Segway, of course.

Honestly, we might as well be asking why guys with Ferraris don't send their women to shop at Wal-Mart. If a guy with the coin to drop $150K on a toy wants a more puroposeful ride, he'll just buy a Radical or some such to use on the side. bitching about how heavy Ferraris are is a silly waste of bandwidth -especially when none of us can afford one.

It might be interesting to sit in on a Ferrari owners club meeting, and see what they have to say. I'd wager that weight is way down their list of concerns.

OTOH weight is something that folks like to zoom in on. On the Locost boards there's always that guy who wants to get his car under 1000 lbs. Personally I'd rather have it a tad heavier but safer. I won't miss 1/4 second faster 0-60 when I go off the track or someone sideswipes me.

There was a black one of those at the Vintage GP at Mid Ohio a couple of weeks ago, heavy or not that was one ssexy looking and sounding car.

THis reminds me of a "review" an aquaintance of mine wrote about a test drive on the track in a Ferrari 599.

"This is by far the most exotic, fastest car I have ever driven. The whole experience is mind blowing. It feels worth every penny of its 350K + price. Its not just the speed, but everything about the car. I have always thought that Ferraris are on a whole different level from other cars. There is as much of a difference between this and my M3 as there is between my M3 and a VW bug. I have driven Porsches and they feel slightly superior to a BMW (if even that). No so the Ferrari. This is an orgasmic car.

Engine: What can I say? N/A V12 with 620 bhp. Throttle response is immediate as it should be and the power is astounding. For comparison' sake, on my M3 I can get to 240kph at the end of the main straight when pushing it and running on R-comps. On the Ferrari I got to 270kph without pushing it at all on the turn before the straight and shifting it 1,500 RPM below redline. And that sound is straight from heaven.

Transmission: The Ferrari F1 transmission is super fast, but it has a similar jerky feel to what I remember from an SMG M5 that I rode. It fits the character of the car however as it is super tech.

Handling: Its a heavy car but it turns in very well. I had the "manettino" set on Sport, not race or CST off as I wanted all the electronic nannies I could get. Crashing this would have been very very bad. I didn't push it even close to the limit on the turns, probably drove it at 7/10ths if even that. It felt great, excellent feedback.

Interior: From heaven, the richness of the materials is top notch, the instrument cluster is gorgeous. No complaints. I could live there forever.

In summary, I haven't got enough great adjectives to describe the experience. I loved it and feel really fortunate that I had this opportunity."
