I just bought a 91 Toy pickup 5 spd 2wd I plan on hunting outta this truck nothing Deep but it will see some dirt/muddy roads I don't plan on lifting it maybe just adding some A/t or Snow tires as I will drive this truck alot I will need to fix the One wheel peel and have a few options which do ya'll recommend for a almost daily driver that will see offroad use I can do the Lincoln locker myself and have heard they hold up well on the 4cyl rear end=Cheap A spool of course will work cost a little more but I can return to stock if I don't like the driving characteristics I have found a few Lsds for this truck it would make for a better DD My few questions are Pros/cons on each Solution? How will each affect my Gas mileage? How bad is the daily driving on Pavement with a locked rear end Ive heard alot of different opinions on this?

Thanks in advance

For something that will see street duty, I wouldn't weld or spool it. You should be able to get a aussie locker or a Lock Right for it for a couple of hundred bucks that will perform decent and still be OK on the street.

I had no problems driving on the street with the spiders welded in my 240sx, but I did discover that you need quite a powerful welder to get penetration on the spiders.

Gas mileage was unaffected.

I stopped reading what should have been a couple sentences in with a blinding headache.

There is nothing good about welding your diff gears or running a spool on the pavement. I'm assuming your truck has the 7.5" rear which is the same diff as the front of the 4x4 toyotas. Supra LSDs fit that diff just fine, you'll want the 82-86s. Also the celica GTS of that era had the 7.5 with LSD.. There is an Aussie Locker available for the diff that you could look into. I run one on the rear of my 87 4x4 and I don't have any problems with it. It does require a little different driving technique but its not a big deal.

Find a factory junkyard LSD. Even hard-core off-roaders use lockers or LSD, never spools. You need the differentiating for street and LSD is all you need for off-road unless you're planning on some Moab trips.

Another vote for the Lock Right. Its not that expensive, their tough, and they really work.
