Is there a list somewhere of all the really cool car/motorcycle events/swap meets/races etc?
Just the really awesome "dont miss" type of events.
Things like the $201X event, Wicked Big Meet (subaru), Waterfest (vw), etc etc. (Although I heard the last two are getting pretty horrible and I mostly used them for example)
The International Motorcycle event in DC that someone posted about recently made me think of this.
Also for what it's worth I am pretty interested in swap meets. I've never been to one in my life.
Carlisle, PA is home to some pretty excellent swap meets and car shows.

Salute to my hometown!
And, yes... some of the most awesome swap meets I've ever seen. I kinda chuckle when I go to other swap meets... Even Pomona in L.A. You could literally spend all four days at Carlisle Spring or Fall meets and not have time to see it all. Its huge.
There are also specific meets, like Corvette, sport/import, mopar, ford, and others that cater to more specific needs. They're a bit smaller and they condense your desires into smaller swap meets.
If your area has enough car/bike culture there will be a local website that lists them all. Like this one for Austin:

Hey, just found this. Not sure how complete it is, but you can search by state or region.

Considering your location, do not miss the New Hamsphire Vintage Festival, NHMS, Loudon, NH on May 12 - 13 (this includes vintage motorcycle racing including sidecars as well as vintage sports cars). By the way, the weekdays prior to that weekend (I think Wed-Fri), they have vintage sprint cars: also cool.

You might also want to go to The British Invasion In Stowe, Vt. in Sept.
And you might want to try your hand at some east USA auto-cross events..
The GRM online calendar has some events listed too.
http://www.autoswalk.com/ maintains a national list of car/bike shows and swap meets.
The Hershey Swap Meet is huge. I went a few years ago and got sick of walking around looking at stuff ! That is highly unusual for me, it's really that large. I've been to the Carlisle Import and Kit show a few times, and did their other import show with my son last year (I forget what it's called). There's lots of good shows within a day's drive of you.
It's not an event, but you have to hit Deal's Gap before you die. Mmmmm
