If they don't bungle the spec tire i think i may buy a s197 and compete. It seems like it could really be fun.

Barn door closed, horse already out, and to further Tom's point, but/and as follows: The majority of most makes at auto-x are Miatas, Vettes, Toyobarus, and then the newer pony cars. Don't know about Club Racing, but track nights and the like are probably same. "Economy of scale".
Popular makes (of which they picked 2) that Koni makes parts for, and if they can make double adjustable 8611s for ~$350 (just an insert, I get it...) I can't understand why not partner with them for any of the kits, as opposed to Penske and $4k through Mazda Motorsports (for example)?
Probably closer to $2500 for a good kit, and with a zillion Miatas (and/or S197s) probably less than that.
If you're starting to, or want and plan to, expand beyond auto-x in to the others, it's not a bad buy in at the suspension level.
As to SSC, I've actually thought about it to see where I fall in a level class (as noted above, I don't see many SSC locally...), but in terms of zippy suspension, springs and Koni yellows (on the Miata) aren't near as crisp and responsive as the "inexpensive" coilovers on the car now (the west coast version of Redshift) and I really enjoy that.
I will say the Koni single adjustable 8610s on the E21 feel pretty close to the "Redshifts" and why I wonder that they wouldn't have gone Koni for the kits.
That said, if this stuff is aimed at dyed in the wool types that do nationals and higher level motorsports all the time anyway, those guys probably don't care about the extra $15-1800 for suspension - that's not that much more when travel cost for just one weekend somewhere will be close to that.
