We’re not wasting any time trying out the new oil system and fresh rod bearings we fitted into our BMW 435i project. We’re not even going to bother taking it off the trailer after its trip home from BimmerWorld.

[Do we have an engine oiling problem with our BMW 435i?]

Instead, it’s getting wiped down and sent right to …

Gotta show some respect to the purple Ferrari Portifino on its third Daytona track day.

First session in the books. Anyone want to make any oil pressure guesses?

Too late.
I think I'm going to declare it cured. Lowest oil pressure was a momentary drop to around 50psi. I like this math

I can feel the humidity of the first photo from here.  Thats my usual view through my glasses stepping out of my A/C into humid hell.

Glad the car has oil pressure!  Success!

Heh, I see fellow CFR autocrossers Ryan with the SC300 and Rachel with the Corolla hatch behind the 435i

I feel so... so... Validated. :D

JG,

did you have to break in the new connecting rod bearings at all?

Doing bearings on my S54 now and forgot to ask the Bimmerworld guys what is the procedure. Last time I kept it under 5k rpms for 1200 miles, but those were stock, I picked up BE Bearings this time.

Had to leave the race track to go to the race track. DIS drinks about a gallon a lap. Yikes.

I asked them the same thing. Phil's words: "nah just send it."

consider it sent.
his position was top end stuff (rings) needs break-in. Bottom end does not.

That seems quite excessive for a car like that.  The 720S I got to drive at Sebring used half a tank in 12 laps, roughly 9.5 gallons.  It has 11 fuel injectors, so it's a very thirsty car at full throttle .

Did I miss the part where you told us what you did to remedy the oil pressure issue? I can't find it in any of the articles.

I'll get a lap video together by tomorrow, but man the thing is just rock solid. 150+ across start/finish with no tune. Oil temp 265-270, coolant temp 220-230 for entire sessions, good pressure numbers all the way across. And I wasn't taking laps off, either. You can just push the thing lap after lap and the temps and pressures just stay rock solid.

I had a lot of folks assuming it was an M4, or at least a tuned 440i, but were shocked to see it was a 435.

Also a big shoutout to the TNiA crew. i don;t do nearly enough of those. It's a really cool format, and people are really bought in to the culture. There were a few minor mechanical issues, but no red mist incidents to be had, which is pretty impressive.
