With a long commute, I value the option of quiet and comfort. I drive my relatively loud Mustang during from Spring until the snow first flies, but I have the option of taking something quieter when I can't deal with the noise. If I had to pick only one car to do a commute in, something quiet and comfortable would get my vote.

I'd say: BMW 540 or 740. The V8 is a nice motor and it doesn't do bad on the highway for mileage and the chassis is nice and comfy while being responsive.

m4ff3w on this forum has a 540 6 spd and he's averaged ~22 over the time he's owned it with a lot of highway driving, iirc.

On the upside also P51's people move out of your way and you almost NEVER will get pulled over

I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I used to have a Fit and it was a good around town car and decent commuter, it was a little highly wound on the highway. I moved up to a Mazda 5 which is a better mile eater on the whole.
