I've been watching Craigslist for months now waiting for the right one, and I found her. A 1991 318i with a manual transmission. She was owned by a BMW mechanic who, when his newborn son arrived, realized he had too many BMWs at the house and had to thin out the herd. She's got a new clutch, entire new cooling system (radiator, hoses, heater core, etc), all new vacuum lines, new steering rack, Bilstein dampers, Eibach sways, and new Sumitomo HTRs. Got her for a little over Challenge priced.

I just put some new halfshafts on her tonight, as that was the only mechanical issue that hadn't been addressed. She just needs a ton of little things, like the driver's seat needs some serious work, the power locks don't work right (although they do lock), the paint's got issues, etc, etc.

I'm really looking forward to owning this car for a while. It's going to be a DD that might eventually see some track use once I get it where I want it. Mostly it's just something for me to play with in the garage and enjoy driving.

So how do you tell if a BMW is female?

nice find!! I love the m42 engine. Never had an e30 in a 4 door. looks very straight.

what do the locks do? If you are inside the car and push down the drivers side do the other doors lock?

There are some easy adjustments that fix weird e30 locking issues.

The driver's side lock just straight-up doesn't work at all, manually. The power locks can lock/unlock it from the trunk or front left door, but you can't lock the door manually. Someone tried to fix it in the past and cut open the door, but they didn't figure it out, apparently. I took off the lock cylinder and realized an entire lever had snapped off.

I'd love to just replace the entire door.

You remind me of my friend in college.

When I was a junior and he was a sophomore, we both got cars- I got a 10year old Alfetta GT, and he got a 4 year old 318.

I was amazed how much more he spend on keeping that car running than I did.

Really, that's the first thing I thought of when you said it was a 318.

Ok, that was the second thing I got. First thing- is that a Nissan- or what is it? The picuture makes it look like about 1000 other 2 box sedans produced in the early 90's.

Have fun with the car, though!!

$32 remote lock clicker is what I added to my e30 in 15 minutes.
