1947 Willys CJ-2. found on the List of Craig for 500.00. runs but needs a headgasket.
Good lord. How on earth do you find anything that cool on CL? Around here it's nothing but overpriced crap they should be paying you to take.
That is massively cool! Congratulations.
Ole No Die (??!!) painted on the hood AND a beer bottle next to the drivers' seat? Well played, sir.
Saw one of those tooling along on the beach in the Outer Banks of NC last year. Coolest thing on the sand that day.
There is way more than $500 of fun to be had in that. Brings back memories of dad's 1971 cj5, straight 6, 3 speed stick, red with a white metal roof. I still remember the day we took the roof off to get ready to repair and paint it - we put the windshield down a drove it down the road and around the farm. The body mounts were so rusted by that point that it wandered all over the place. You didn't steer it - you guided it as best you could.
Head gasket on a "go-devil" takes about a half hour.
klb67 CJ5's never had a straight six. Later ones had a V-6
Wander was most like the steering bell crank bearings being shot. common on the older models.
around here a popular engine for those due to reliability is the 4.0 out of an older cherokee or wrecked wrangler
Did you happen to have a shotgun in your hands while you were "negotiating"?
You berkeleying stole that thing. Locally, there is a guy that wants 1000$ for a rolling frame without an engine. Something like that would require another zero added to the price you paid.
I found a '48 CJ3A for sale in the Boise CL for $2900. It had no rot and ran and drove. The ad was up for one day.
I'm sure the seller had people beating down his door and throwing cash at him.

A 71 cj5 would have a v6, while a 72 cj5 would have an inline 6. Depends on if the vehicle was a kaiser manufactured vehicle or not. The hood wasn't long enough on a Kaiser/willys jeep for the I-6.
55-71 Hurricane 4 cylinder
61-65 perkins dieseasel
65or 66 - 71 dauntless 225 V6 (oddfire)
72-79(ish) 232 inline six
72-83 258 inline six
72-80(ish, might be 83) 304 v8
80-83 IRON DUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well went out tonight to work on it. re-torqued the head and changed the oil. after running it for 20 minutes or so there is no sign of coolant on the oil. run great shifts well. right no I a very pleased. I was out with pilot braden who bought an IT7 race car from logdog on here. his was worng very well also. being able to put them up on the new lift makes a world of difference.
I've wanted a flatfender since I was about eight years old. Those Mustang seats look perfect in there. Nice score!
I'll be the first to say it, if you ever decide to sell let me know. I'll at least double your money...
I have a 42 Willys MPT to pull behind my TJ. If I could find a early CJ for even a reasonable price I'd be all over it, like a fat kid on a cupcake.
In reply to Woody: is that what the seats are from? I knew I recognized them, but could not place them. I am looking forward to taking the kids up north to do some trail driving.
In reply to octavious: I will keep that in mind if i ever decide to sell it. I have 2 boys and one wants my 1891 Colt Peacemaker and the other wants this willys. I think the Colt is worth more right now.

You can just send me the Jag in the background for the same price you paid for the CJ. That'd be fine too...
Serious there is one on our local CL that has been for sale for ever at $1000 and it is a rusted out piece of junk. You got a great deal on that thing.
You'll need to log in to post.
