I think the Colt is worth more right now.Serious there is one on our local CL that has been for sale for ever at $1000 and it is a rusted out piece of junk. You got a great deal on that thing.
I concur. great deal and nice jeep.
It is a nice Jeep. If Chris had not bought it I would have. It starts up and idles smooth. The brakes are also working better with a little use.
Is there any more to the story or history of it? It looks like it has very little rust. I can't tell if that is a slight wrinkle in the rear of the tub. But still that is insane for $500.

If the centers are smooth, they are '65. If they are textured, they are '66.

Having been involved with Jeep vehicles until the late '70's I can assure you. CJ's never came with a straight six. I wasn't until the redesign and becoming Wrangler that there was enough room for the straight engine.

Sorry, but this is wrong. In 72, the hood was stretched to include a 232 and 258 I-6 option after AMC took over.
For example here is a link to Allpar that shows the 232 as base and 258 as option on the 75-76 CJ's. http://www.allpar.com/amc/1975-1976-jeep.html

It must have been a V6 then - I can't picture the engine bay anymore, but I know it wasn't a 4. Thanks for the clarification.
And sorry to start a diversion with my mis-remembering. Back to more drooling over the "stolen" jeep.
In reply to octavious: The drivers rear fender has been dented and beaten back to some version of straight. It has had lots of steel patches welded in, but the frame is excellent.

No worries. I had 71 CJ5 as well and it was wonderful. Always nice to relive the memories.
