Hi all,
Was at the Chin Motorsports VIR event last weekend and my oiling issues finally got the better of the 1JZ in the SC300. If anyone has a line on a 2JZ (short/long) block, let me know. The shop I'm at now in Atlanta has a nicely built bottom end (Carillo, CP, etc) but it's a pricey $7500. If I can get away with new bearings in the 1J I will probably slowly build a new bottom on my own (1.5JZ) or slowly build a new motor (2JZ).

I probably should have been double clutching when I was granny shifting.
Do you mind elaborating on your oiling issues? I've always heard this motor was rock solid. I raced a Supra with a 1JZGTE swap a few years back and was really impressed with it. I think it was pushing 14psi or so.
On topic with SBF - Japan may be your only option here. That or finding a junkyard take out from an SC300, Supra, or other.

Hey. Double clutching has improve my gas mileage by about 2 mpg. Or maybe I started driving slower... I choose to believe the earlier stated fact.
I highly suggest a 2JZ-GTE. Drove one a couple years back and it was a blast.
You can buy the motors for about three large, but you have to throw away a bunch of extra parts, like tail lights, transmission, radiator, body, seats, brakes....

The *JZ motors are generally rock solid, assuming you run enough oil in them.
What I think my starvation issues really were were under-capacity. There are questions about what the real capacity of these motors are, but looking at it now it seems like somewhere in the neighborhood of 5.5-6.5 L (5.8 - 6.8 quarts).
My car had an additional oil cooler and we recently added an Accusump (3qt) to address what I thought were starvation issues. There was also a filter relocation kit in addition to the oil cooler.
So, if you add up the oil line for the filter relocation kit, a small cooler, the oil line for the cooler, the 3qt accusump and the oil line for the accusump, I bet that the car probably needed ~7+3+(2 or 3) = 12-13 quarts of total oil.
I was running what I think was probably about 8.
Now, that was based on advice from the shop ("Run 8 quarts") that did much of the work on this car, and, sadly, on a dipstick that read FULL even though the system was potentially 5-6 quarts low.
This, sadly, brings up a really good question:
How do you ideally determine the exact oil capacity of a system? I'll be starting a new thread for that...
I've seen 2JZs in local junkyards.. look for a GS300 in your local yards. Around here a motor is $200 - $500 in a you-pull-it yard.

But seriously, you're running an accusump, were you checking the oil with the accusump full and the valve closed?
Oil filter relocation wouldn't have been a big deal as long as you had a good filter with an anti-drainback valve.
