I'll predict that this leaves for Australia. People like the RX-2,-3,-4 here but they are bonkers for them in OZ.

My parents had a couple of RX-4s, purchased new. They're much lower profile than the 3 so you rarely see any sign of them.

Pretty much. As far as I know there are just exterior differences like that grill and taillights.

To answer OP's question, I bought my 1988 BMW M5 at a Mazda dealership in St Louis in 2010. I found it advertised on Autotrader. The kicker here is I wasn't looking for one. I had been scouring the internet for a 4 door RWD manual tranny car for 10K or under and there was NOTHING out there for 3 months except for one white CTS 6 cylinder, that I did look at and hated. Then back in 2014 the local Ford Dealership had a 1977 BMW 633i in their lot for a couple months. So it does happen but it's rare.

That's just a hop, skip and jump from my house, but it's way outside of my fun money budget of *checks wallet* $22.00 at the moment.
I'm curious how well the intercooler works with no airflow - that's not snark, truly curious. I would have thought it would negate the benefit of the IC. This is relevant to current swap project

A buddy of mine actually drove this car, said it had gobs of power and didn't overheat.
Interesting, that's almost directly across the street from my son's school. If someone goes to buy or check it out, stop in for donuts at the little basement donut shop across the street. Generally, called "sketchy donuts" by the moms from school due to its proximity to a questionable motel. Note, sketchy by Cary, NC standards :-) I just thought this place sold trucks and Jeeps. At least from the road, that's all you see.

it's a 1976 rx4 the front end looks that way because of the year 1976. 1973-1975 had the pointy/slant nose and 1976-1979 had the flat nose also called the "merc" nose (Mercedes'). Same goes for the 929 except they had piston engines
I noticed my car on here a while back but never thought to respond.
the car now has a FMIC and runs on a fueltech 550 with a custom mill-spec harness. It's conservatively tuned to 230whp & 235lbs torque. Fixed up a couple outher things but I have alot more work to do before cranking up the power.

They sort of did, in that they stopped selling the RX-2 at the end of the twin dizzy era, and they stopped selling the RX-4, RX-5, and REPU (the luxury pickup, in the 1970s) in the US before they stopped selling the RX-3.
Of course, there were multiple generations of RX-4 and RX-5... technically those were both second generation, as the RX-4 was known in the home market as the Luce, and the first generation Luce was front wheel drive with a 13A engine, the only rotary Mazda built with different trochoid dimensions from the 10A/12A/12B/13B. There was at least one more generation of Luce in the 1980s.
The RX-5 is better known as the Cosmo, there were four generations of that 
it was the only car to have one of everything that Mazda made.
A second generation RX-3 would have been pretty cool, although given that the RX-7 was mostly RX-3 parts, with coil springs instead of leaf springs in the back, and separate front stabilizer bar and tension rods up front (so it was like a Falcon with struts, instead of like a Mk1/2 Escort), the RX-7 could kind of be considered a continuation of the RX-3, just a lot larger.
I never appreciated how big a 1st generation RX-7 was for a 70s Japanese car until I got an RX-3.
