I am looking to buy a 16' or 18' lowboy car trailer buy this weekend or very early next week. The two I have found that I like are Gator and Car mate. I can't see any difference between the two in the specs, and googling reviews I haven't found any real bad reviews about either. The Gator is almost $700 cheaper, which I like, but don't want to be a cheap a$$ and end up with junk either. Anyone have any personal experiences with either brand or other good brands? Here are links to the two I am looking at right now.

I have a 20 foot enclosed CarMate. I've had it for 3+ years now, tows well, everything works ok, all the dents are mine. No experience with the open ones, but the closed seems to be a good value.

The Car mate lists the axles as Dexters which are good, the Gator doesn't list a brand in the spec sheet. I would find out what the frame is made of on the Car mate. The Gator lists 5" x 3" angle for the frame & 3"x2" angle for the cross members, I would prefer a c-channel frame, usually 6" high. The Gator is listed being lighter, which may mean the Car mate might have thicker/taller frame rails, I would check with them to be sure though.
