Due to financial issues, I can't afford to build my own car again this year. I'm looking to work on the car, and maybe learn about things I normally wouldn't. I'm good at squeezing into small spaces, I can run a sawzall really well, and I own no less than 5 BFH's.

I have a truck that I don't care much about, so I'm happy making junkyard runs for grimy things if you don't have a truck that you can junk up.

Anyone in the Central Florida area that needs a new team member that has a junkyard of old Accords and likes to share good beer and nice cigars, send me a PM.

I’m up in Mass. Feel free to head up here and work on the Miata. Its still kinda cold out so if you could go out side and unbolt and rebuilt the turbo and check the compression on the 1.6L that would be great. I’m going to sit inside where it’s warm and drink beer. Let me know when you are done.

Seriously, I’m sure there are a few Florida teams that would be more then happy to have another team member.

Too bad you're in FL. I have a team of 1 here in IL (go me)

4 hrs too far?

I'd consider it an honor, and I'd be happy to put you up for whatever nights are necessary. A few weekends over the course of several months could make a huge impact, and a willing and able parts searcher is always a good thing, no matter where they live.

I'll pass on the cigar part, unless you are anxious for me to puke on your shoes, but I don't mind you doing it at all.

Anyone in Northern Alabama doing the $2010 challenge?

In reply to 96DXCivic:

I'm in central AL. This year's build is very simple though. I find garage time is at a premium when you have two kids under the age of 2.

Next year's build I hope will be a little more interesting. Could particularly use help with welding and fiberglass work.

If I remember right you go to school in the Huntsville area right? If you're interested in helping on the $2011 car some weekend shoot me a PM and let me know.

Currently in L'ville. Back at school at the end of the week, then back in L'ville at the end of the school year. No actual car-knowledge past changing the oil really, but willing to learn. PM me if you want some help.

SV, as long as there are no other offers, I'll probably join your team. Google Maps claims it's between 4 and 5 hours from my town to yours. That's not bad for a weekend.

I'll certainly pay my own ticket for the banquet and since I live close enough to the track, if I need sleep, I'll just travel the 45 minutes back home, unless I can find a floor to crash in.

I'd say it would benefit the team to have a member outside of the area, because it broadens the search radius for parts.

Did you run last challenge? I'm dreadfully awful at remembering these things, and I didn't see an entry in this year's Challenge issue.

I'll work out some details by the end of the weekend if I'm joining you up.

TeamLonelyGuy would have some help!

Sure I ran the 2009 Challenge- on a 40 year old tandem bicycle.

No. Though I've been to the last 6 Challenges, I sat this one out. I volunteered at the track.

I'd love to have a partner in crime, although you are a lot closer to the Gainesville crowd. I'm a little surprised they haven't checked into this thread yet. We swap stuff back and forth a lot, so there is a good possibility of plugging into both a bit.

You'll want to crash closer. Trust me. We'll work it out.

I do have one guy from the Jacksonville area that would like to help too. He's very into the car I'm building this year, and has a lot of valuable experience. He won't come up too often, but there will be a few chances to share a ride.

Let me know what you think. I'd be happy to accommodate.

Josh is out of town this week, not sure about Gene. I'm not planning a build this year but they both are. I would imagine they would welcome the help.

Since I'm just looking to work on cars, what's been said about being on multiple teams? I don't see an issue myself, as long as the teams are cool with it.

I was planning on doing a one man team myself, but I don't have the time or budget to build the car, even though I have one. Getting out of debt trumps playing with cars at this point in my life.

If there's another potential member in Jax, I think it would work out well for be to meet him/her in Jax and just take one vehicle up. I'm more than happy using mine as the team's mule.

I don't mind body work, but let me warn you that I've never welded one thing in my life. I can hammer and dolly stuff pretty well, and I'm good with a can of Bondo, a sanding block, and a can of spray paint.

Who said anything about welding??

My car is fiberglass.

No issues with helping more than one team. In fact, the Gainesville crowd + me + (who knows how many other guys) probably equal one complete team, in a weird kinda way. TeamYardsFullaCrap.

Ahh, so adhesives, resin, and mat. And Bondo, lulz.

I'm one of those guys that likes working on things because they're hard. I often learn a lot to finish the hard part of any given project, just to abandon it once I just have a few loose ends to tie up. I like thinking outside of the box. Maybe working with others will help me see a project through.
