How many have stopped checking out FF posts because of all the "experts"? I liked the concept but the whiners and critics got old fast. Just my opinion.

I stopped reading it thoroughly by the second page....I gave up entirely by the 5th page.

I honestly never even looked at it until I saw this thread and thought "FF... what is he talking about? Factory Ford?". Looked at page 52 and the first three posts of 51 and lost interest.

Damn... I'm really going crazy waiting for my MINI to get here.

I'm editing my entry as we speak, and I haven't read 98% of that thread, or the similar one over on the Factory Five forum. I still plan to buy the kit.

The wonderful thing about the contest is that the winners will be decided by a judging pool that includes some experienced, talented people. An internet popularity contest (which is what these threads have become) would just result in a boring, generic design winning.

I don't think these threads have anything to do with the fact that FFR is going to produce a 1800lb car with a 225+ hp engine in it that you can build for $15k all-in. That's why I still care!

I enjoy checking in. Don't spend a lot of time reading. Mainly look at the pretty pictures

Haven't read it since the first weekly winner or so. There was some amazing designs and I learned that I was not going to be the designer of the next great sports car. When the winner is announced I will care again. I am interested in the outcome, but not really the process since I am not entering.

I check it at least twice a day and then I check the FF forum. For a lot of years of my life I wanted to be a car designer. Sadly I suck but I do enjoy people who have the gift.

So build what you want. Forget about kits....it will take longer, but that doesn't mean you can't do it.

All i have is the paper print out, a pencil and a big pink eraser. Sorry, dont have CAD and am not a pro, which it turned out to be.

I say next time, have it be a paper entry only, keep it more fair for the little guys...

In the time it took you guys to make and respond to this thread about responding to a thread about designing the concept for a kit car, SkinnyG turned:

into:

Thanks to SkinnyG for providing pictures of his car, along with some interesting stats: Total cost: $5700. Total weight: 1275lbs.

SkinnyG wins...

The thread seems best for people who are in the contest. I don't much care for self-appointed experts either, but some people are really attached to the idea of knowing more than the next guy. It's fun being an administrator.

Whether the thread interests you or not, I still think the contest is pretty epic. Somebody is going to win big(ish) money and be (moderately) famous for their design.

Maybe a better way to keep tabs on it is by looking at the weekly winner's gallery...

It has many of the best entries without the dialogue.

In reply to Tom Heath:

Well, some of us (including both my boys, who are great artists) would have been very interested in participating, but don't have the type of CAD systems that these guys have. Simple pencil drawings would level the playing field. Or maybe just weigh them equally against the computer generated stuff. Isn't all FF needs is a concept, not a finished product? Maybe I'm wrong about that, as I haven't followed it much since the very beginning.

In reply to bravenrace:

There are plenty of pencil and paper entries. Some of them are fantastic. The rules aren't going to change to remove software tools from someone else's arsenal. What about the guy with no arms? Under an "all-pencil" rule set, he'd have the same complaint.

Design wins, tools help.

$5000. Pseudo-fame. I can't offer any more encouragement than that.

I lost interest months ago. Kinda the same with the Smyth TDI car, although I still get periodic Facebook updates there (although I haven't been on FB in a week).

I was disappointed the TDI car wasn't at Carlisle this year... and don't recall seeing anything about the WRX car in the FF display.
