Was at the junk yard today and ran across an early 2000's Silverado that had been t-boned. Drive line was still in it, but the end of the rear axle was sheared off. Didn't think much of it until I saw a sign on the way out stating all engines (complete) were $99 through the end of the month. I think transmissions were $75 or so.
I don't have the time or means currently to go get it, and don't have an immediate use either, but it hurts to pass up.
Its at the u-pull it in Pontiac Michigan for who ever wants it...

You could put that in a challenge car and have someone not believe you got it for $99.
In theory, I could have a complete LS powered car for under $1008. My rough looking roller is $271.68 as it sits.
Always keep the receipt!!
That never happens up in these parts.
Hell get a group of guys together and go pull a dozen and stash them and re sell on CL or eBay.
Those disappear FAST, I've seen LSx cars/trucks in various pick and pulls, but never one with an engine in it.
If they are like our U-pulls, that is for a stripped engine. Accessories, intake, etc. are extra.

My usual go-to yard normally charges $199 for a complete V8, sans alternator and power steering pump. Most of the yards start having sales at this time of year because the number of people going through will drop off as the weather cools.I can believe the $99 price is a pretty complete motor.
I was just there last weekend pulling bits off Saturns. Anyway, If anyone wants to go get an engine and wants an extra pair of hands I get bored on weekends sometimes. Just saying
i got a complete aluminum 5.3 out of an 09 Suburban for $100... then like an idiot i pulled it apart and i need to buy several hundred dollars in gaskets to put it back together..
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! No time, no extra $ an no garage space. And I only live 15 min away....

Last time I was at the yard, there was a Silverburbahoe stripped completely to bare rolling frame, no sort of cab, body panels, or anything left, save for the 4.8 LS sitting completely out in the open between the frame rails just begging to be pulled. Would have been so easy. Spent about 5 minutes just staring at it before concluding there was no way I was getting it out and home with the vehicle and bare minimum of tools I had on me.
Engine hoarding is a dangerous habit. It's worse than heroine. You still end up with your arms all bloody and scarred but the high doesn't last as long.
I've never had it in me to engine pull at the junkyard. While i'd much rather bring home just an engine, its easier to buy a donor and disassemble at home with air tools and torch if needed.
A $99 5.3+ would have me reconsider
Our junk yard sells all engines for $150.00 if you pull them. Lots of late model stuff in a clean well drained yard with hoists and buggys available free of charge. Its like value village for cars.

There's plenty of gut-rusted trucks in the junkyards around here with engines for $125. Both Rubicon Recycling in Rome, NY and Vince's U-Pull-It in Marcy, NY sell them for ~$125
What trucks have desirable ls motors to swap into a track car? I'm considering it and have thought that buying a crashed/parts vehicle is the way I want to go but no luck finding cheap camaros or vettes
In reply to jfryjfry:
Anything after 2003 has an LS engine. The 4.8 truck motors are aluminum heads, but iron blocks. Not every LS has an aluminum block.
IIRC, 4.8s and 5.3s come in both aluminum and iron block versions (but all have aluminum heads).
Gotcha. I assume the only way to tell which block it is is to put eyes on it? (Ie yr/model/trim/etc wont tell)
In reply to jfryjfry:
99 and newer, the 4.8/5.3 share a block and bore so you'll need to check the VIN for displacement.
