no aluminum 4.8 so if you stumble upon an aluminum one in a truck it's a 5.3 and then i believe the newer ones you'll find an aluminum 6.2

the 4.8/5.3 blocks are stamped 4.8/5.3L except aluminum, which just says 5.3 on it.

really any of them are good. the 4.8 would like more gear than the 5.3. the 6.0 could care less as it's torquey.

Pickups got the LS in '99 (except the 'classic' which was the old style truck) utlities followed in 2000 when they switched to the new platform Vans were a bit later, 2003
