I thought I did all my homework before buying some CL MINI Cooper wheels and tires for my '05 Scion xB.
Bolt circle, offset... everything was right. I even posted here and found another member here who'd done the swap successfully.
Then I went to mount them. Never once did I think about wheel thickness at the lugs.
Common wisdom says the lugs should go completely through the nuts. Mine do not, by 1-2 threads. That'd be 1.5-3mm @ 1.5 thread pitch.
Now... we're talking about a street-driven car. While the xB is a decent handler, I'm not racing nor taking corners at high speeds.
What say the wisdom of the board? Am I in decent enough shape, or should I worry?
Thanks,
Evan
i think it doesn't matter if the lug goes all the way through the nut, i think what matters is how many threads on the lug are engaged by the nut. get a MINI nut and a scion nut and compare them side by side. perhaps the scion nut is taller?
Mil'spec on all hardwear used to be bolt dia plus 2 threads.
I try to use that on all my stuff too, how ever I've run in to things like this myself if i use a normal lug nug nut on my race car i only have two threads showing but if i use the double sided lug (taper on both side no messing around on quick pit stops) I'm short but a ways. Tech guy noted it and made me show him with single tapper nut. I need to find a longer stud just to keep my "visual all is good walk around pre race inspection"
Dorman has a nice PDF that give Kurl size, thread size, thread pitch, over all lenght etc.
I've got the link somewhere...

I've run my MINI wheels on my wife's Xb and never noticed that. I'll have to check more carefully the next time I fit them.
