racing related … guess this could fit under GRM

I know it may not mean much to many here, but if you grew up in the South, and in particular NC, and went to NASCAR races in the 60s/70s/80s and listened to them on MRN, you knew she was as much a part of Petty Enterprises as Richard, Dale, Maurice and Lee.

Sad day. Her and the King seem to have had one of those special relationships. Bobby Allison and his wife had their ups and downs (I think they are back together after a divorce), and you never knew much if anything about David Pearson or Cale Yarborough or Buddy Baker's wives, and Stevie Waltrip always seemed a bit odd, and hten Junior left Flossie for a much younger woman. But Richard and Lynda stuck it out.

Thoughts out to the Pettys.

Sorry to hear this.

My first girlfriend's name was Linda Petty. One of many lies she told me was that Richard was her uncle and he would ocaissionally drive through O'burg on the way to a race and pick her up. They were no relation whatsoever.

Yes, sorry to hear this, too. When King was grand marshall for the Rolex 24 At Daytona, my wife and I went to the big pre-race Rolex party. Mr. Petty could not have been more gracious. When my wife approached for an autograph, he said something like, Hello, young lady.

I met The King when I had Brickyard 400 pit passes about 13 years ago. We shook his giant hand and asked for an autograph, but didn't have a writing utensil. He was gracious and friendly, even though he was obviously in a hurry to get to his team. We didn't waste much of his time.

I've been a NASCAR fan for decades, and the Petty family deserves to be the top of the royalty chain. Richard has known for decades what makes a fan, and put up with all of our crap while being professional and friendly. Imagine putting up with that while doing better at your job than most of your co-workers!

Anyone who can act as well as this family does isn't acting--that's who they are, and who they've always been. Now imagine being the spouse of someone who chose this career. Lynda Petty was a saint. An angel. An amazing wife. We should all learn from this family how to treat others.

Lynda Petty is proof of the old saying that behind every great man, there's a great woman. (Dee Andretti is another.)

Thoughts and prayers for the Petty family.

The Wife and I got to meet her on one of our first vacations. We had gone to North Carolina for a wedding and stopped at the museum on the way home. When we got there the wife realized she left at lunch about an hour away. She was upset and I told her we would worry about it after the museum. I had waited to go since I was a kid and they had been closed on our way down. Mrs Petty was at the counter with some other people and heard us talking. She gave me a phone book and the phone to call the restaurant and told me I had to go get it before I could come in. She gave us a short cut that I think was through someone's farm.

At the time my wife had pretty much no knowledge of NASCAR and had no idea who she was, just some nice lady we met.
