I need a coolant temperature sensor that has a M14x1.5 thread. Most of the stuff I can find is M12x1.5 or NPT 1/8. I have a GM sensor for now which has an M12x1.5 thread and the hole in the engine is M14. It is not enough of a difference in diameter for an adapter that will not put the sensor too high. Anybody knows an engine/car which used such a sensor?

Get an M14x1.5->1/8 NPT adapter. Easiest way to do it (unless there's an easy parts interchange, but I don't know of one).

The easiest way to get an adaptor is to buy a drain plug that size, then drill and tap it 1/8 NPT.  I have done this to make oil pressure gauge adaptors for various cars.

I found a guy on msextra with the same problem. He was doing a Volvo 240 and apparently the coolant port is also M14x.1.5

I ordered the Stant version of a Bosch 0 280 130 037, it's for a 94-95 BMW 530i or 540i.

It should be a bolt-in solution!
