2nd lap of the first session of the at the SCCA PDX on Summit Point main course today. I'm behind a nicely done Nissan 240SX Sylvia clone. He's behind a new Sti. Remember, it's the 2nd lap, and there was a 12 hr endurance race w/ rain yesterday, so grip is iffy offline and there's puddles, mud and mud puddles. We get to the passing zone between T9 & T10, the Sti points the Syvia by, and he just goes straight to hyperspace mode. I think the thing made like 300-odd HP. He gets to T10, brakes late but turns in early, gets pinched on the exit, drops a wheel off, dials in a healthy dose of steering, and does a graceful 180 back across the track (just missing the Sti) where he enthusiastically collected the tire wall. If he'd bounced back on track I might could have had a moment, but it stayed stuck.

He got every panel on the LH side plus the carbon and the JDM nose.

I'd figured he'd have been naturally predisposed to sideways, but calling on the years of drift experience he froze at the controls. Hate to see this kind of thing.

Ouch, sucks to hear about stuff like that, I enjoy drifting as my primary motorsport, it's very fun. I can't say I'd react any differently because most drifters start to over compensate grip driving when trying to do track days for fear of really throwing the tail out . . .I would guess. I'm going to try a few of those to see what it's like. I'll keep the tail in check but if it steps out, I might see what high speed slides feel like, LOL!

I'm sorry to hear about that Silvia though, never a good time when your day ends with a tire wall

Classic rookie mistake. Cold, debris strewn track, cold tires, cold driver. Overcooked, early apex, spat out the other side.

Hopefully he's ok, cars can be replaced.

No reason for that in turn 10... all you have to do is open the wheel and drive it out past the curbs - plenty of bumpy grass on the other side if you have really, really missed (or there is a dooshbag dive-bombing you from 100 meters back and you are sure that slamming the door will get both of you killed).

Pinching and/or lifting is the worst possible thing you can do to yourself there but it sure is a popular approach.
