We're making up a throttle cable (the old one broke) and I'm looking for a place to buy .085 / 2.15mm cable core.

Anybody have a source?

I have a whole spool of 2mm cable in my garage... I'm betting 2mm is close enough. 2mm cable is also often labeled 5/64ths. your spec is right in between 5/64 and 3/32nds. so 11/128ths? lol

I bought a 30' length of cable from McMaster-Carr to repair a lift control.  It was available in all sorts of sizes.

I have some applications I would like to make my own cables.  Do you have a good how-to?

Here are ones usually used for dune buggies... they're usually cut to fit. They also have a few different ends.

Pegasus Racing did make custom cables with sheaths and various end fittings. I assume they probably have different diameters. Visit their website or give them a call. Very good people to work with.

Most bike cables are 1.5mm.  If you go the fancy bike shop you can get the inner cable teflon coated.  I used one of those for years with no problems.

McMaster is a good source, as was mentioned.

Rosebrand.com, bmisupply.com, musson.com are all theatrical supply houses with a crapload of wire rope sizes.

Here is what I would do from McMaster

Available in as little as 5' lengths, and only 49 cents a foot.  It's 5/64", so a wee bit smaller than your 0.85" but it shouldn't matter a hill of beans.  You're only pulling, not pushing.  That's only 0.006725" smaller than what you're after.
