My delima - only have a single car garage and just purchased a Triumph TR7 to join my TR8. Plus, much to my annoyance, my wife keeps putting more of her crap into the garage.

My solution, only on the drawing board at present, is to build a three bay stand alone garage on my property. This will be my man cave and my wife will not be allowed to put her crap in this garage.

I'm trying to come up with a theme. I want it to be guy friendly for when my buddies come over but have more than just the obligatory beer fridge and wall posters. I'm thinking along the lines of a sports bar theme with big screen TV or maybe an English pub theme since I'm into British cars.

Has anybody seen themed garages? I realize its still a garage but it would be nice to make it a little unique. Suggestions?

I have no garage, but my decor ready. A couple hundred legally obtained license plates (still taking donations), street signs, racing flags, car company flags, race car parts, performance stickers, custom appliances....

How about a timeline of your favorite brand or racing series along a wall. Maybe done in pictures/posters/models... Since you are a Triumph guy, you probably have several pieces of car that need to be stored and could be used as 'art' coming out of (or into) the walls.

My garage has entertainment stuff (an old TV, DVD and VHS), pinups and hotrod pics on the wall. The walls have hotrod and checkerboard wallpaper accent strip thingies, GRM stickers, and some signs we bought when we drove the tail of the dragon. What more do you need? (Maybe a welder, sheet metal brake and english wheel. I've got those, too.)

Interesting concept, a complete, working car or two. The decor in my garage consists mainly of weld spatter, metal swarf and some paint overspray.

Here's a garage made for watching tv

I'll be getting a flat screen so I can be entertained while I work.

If you don't let your wife put her stuff in your garage, she isn't going to let you put your "stuff" in her "garage".

All seriousness aside, Classic Motorsports had some good articles on garages.

If I was lucky enough to build a man cave, I think the only decor I would have would be some appropriate signage and pinups. It wouldn't hurt to have a TV, computer station and minifridge. But I wouldn't sacrifice work benches and storage cabinets for those.

This is pretty much the theme I'm shooting for. I just need to wait until I can get a shed large enough to store all the other crap that's currently in my garage. But I plan to add the stuff listed above. If you're into British cars, you could do this in an English theme. I'm sure you could find English street signs on Ebay.

There is very little English spoken on eBay or Craigslist.

cognac colored leather/wood stain wherever possible, and riveted sheet aluminum everywhere else - I want a WW2 bomber feel in my man cave whenever I get around to it...50s era industrial type stuff - lockers, cast steel shelves etc.

Restoration hardware (my wife is mega into interior design) has some GREAT stuff for this...

How about a theme like... there are these cars... and tools and stuff arranged in a useful manner for working on them. There are stains on the floor. One of the cars looks like it's partially disassembled and will never run again. There is an old fridge with all the stickers that come with car parts on it and a tap handle sticking out that pours beer. There is a E36 M3ty old boom box from the 80s with a coat hanger antenna sticking out up on top of a shelf filled with parts to cars you used to own like... 12yrs ago.

I could go on but you probably have the idea and I need to leave something for the imagination.

As to a theme, I have decorated my shop with a bunch of dummies so as to give the "Government Worker" look, with the only concession to any kind of class being the "art Corner" visible in the upper right.

For the life of me I can't find the pictures of the SHOfa anymore, but chop the back half off your favorite type of car and make a sofa with it.....

The furniture looks cool where there's a necessary seam, but OTT with the extra useless seams. That's just me, though.

I used to have race posters on the wall of my old garage. But on my current one, every wall is covered in shelves with parts on them. If I were building my own garage, there would be room for a small metal shop. A fridge would probably be pretty nice to have.

The local powdercoater has his massive truck roll-up door decorated with posters. Mostly 1980's and 1990's beer posters and aftermarket parts posters, which means lots of bikini girls and cool modified or exotic cars. Bonus points for all three at once. It's mesmerizing.

But couches and TVs? Nah. There's always somewhere better to hang out. Unless you build one of those shrines to your car where it's on display (and you can't work on it, in case you smudge the floor), a garage is a working space.

Mine's so full of E36 M3 that even the thought of "decorations" is a laugh. Between the might need, the will need, and the crap I haven't seen since I moved in, I hardly have room for a car.

There is a TV-VCR-DVD setup, but it hasn't been turned on in over a year. There is a stereo that gets used when I remember to turn it on. There are some posters, but no wall space to hang them. It's all shelves full of parts, junk that I might need, past projects, future projects, more parts, transmissions, engines, tools, more engines, and more tools, oh, and a golf cart. I do have a chair, but I think it's full of parts at the moment.

Even worse I've got to figure out how to get a 13 X 60 lathe in there.

And that's with me storing some of my crap and one of my cars in her garage.

My next shop will be 120' X 120' with industrial shelves covering 75% of the floor space. I hate having to go to the hardware store, so when I do I usually buy more than I need. Need a bolt, buy a box of them. Need a plumbing fitting, buy a contractor pack.

I guess you need to decide if it's for entertaining, storage, or working on stuff.
