I remember seeing one of these at Road Atlanta back in the day. Don't remember if it was a display car, or someone just drove it in, but it was very cool, and very small. I really, really wanted that car!

I have gotten to spend some time with #50. My old manager owns it and didn't know anything about rotaries at the time ("You mean it has magical spinning triangles inside it!?") and asked me to help him get it started and road worthy again. It was a blast. Every now and then I ask him if he's ready to give it to me, but I haven't gotten the thumbs up -- yet.

slightly OT, but why do I feel like a kit car that was designed with the spirit of a Rollerskate could do really well in this day and age? super stiff chassis, two seat, front-mid mounted rev-happy engine (preferably a spinning triangle but anything small and rev happy will work), good gearbox, good suspension, and a kinda small boot just big enough for the spare and a small grocery bag, with either a removable hardtop or a ragtop?

Strangely there was one at the Mitty, I have pics to download, they ran a 13B 4 port, stock or very mildly ported by sound, restrictive exhaust, the one I saw had no vacuum advance connected???

It had a stock drum brake open center rear end. was cool a s hell in red and those rims were amazing.

Super lightweight, nice power at around 200hp.

I would get a GSL 84/85 rear for it to maintain the stock rims, yet gain LSD and discs. Open the exhaust up. In this case fix the vacuum problem. Then drive the wheels right off that badboy, sweet sweet ride.

Alan's #12 is a fabulous 13B 'skate! As a fellow Skater (#19), I missed out on #12 when Alan bought it a few years back.

That later R-7 lsd rear/disc brake upgrade is exactly what I did to my 'skate (#19). The lsd is a big improvement; the brakes probably are too but the rear drums are all you'd really ever need on that car; I don't race mine and honestly didn't notice any difference in braking performance on the street.

Frankly even a good running 12A is plenty powerful, and my ported 13B has more than I could ever really use on the street.

FYI, the one at the Mitty was Karl Kemp's SWB Rollerskate, #30.

Most of the Maxton's were the standard/short wheelbase. Mine is the LWB, but it isn't good for average/shorter drivers: I'm 5'10", 32" inseam and I have to drive #19 with the seat as far forward as it will go. I've had at least three interested buyers call that were all on the shorter side and I had to tell them they wouldn't be able to drive it if they bought it and should only consider the SWB cars, the best choice for all but the tallest drivers.

I thought it was the most awesome thing ever when my dad and I saw it on Motorweek. The GRM article brought back a lot of memories. Sure would be cool to have one.

Wow, that's cool, but a little scarry! He (at least acts) surprised that replacing 20+ year old tires and brake pads could have such a big impact on handling and braking!

Update Race Beat said there is no vacuum port on there setup so it stays the way it is for now. Was talking with one of the Grassroots guys they said they knew someone that had the GLS SE rear end. I am looking for one if you still have it or if anyone close by has one I would be willing to drive up to 4 hours to come get let me know!!!!!

Hey, everybody, I like reading that everybody enjoys the Maxton Rollerskate. I have #35! The only thing I don't like about the car is when you drive it in town the car tends to overheat. Any suggestions? When I take it out on the open road, I have no problems at all. Also, if anybody wants a ride, just ask.

Dash mounted switch to turn on the electric radiator fan BEFORE the relay to turn it on kicks in. And tight ducting to the radiator for more controlled air flow. Did the former to the Spitfire, and it works great.

I'm trying really hard to ignore that one as purchasing it would mean borrowing money. OTOH I might actually make a trackday this year.

My wife doesn't drive a manual otherwise it'd be even more tempting as she's currently with her parents in Deland....

oh, that black and silver one is VERY tempting.

I just seen one a couple months back at a downtown car show in Sedalia, Mo.. It was 13B powered with a RX7 being the donor. Not sure what year RX though. I took pictures of it, but the camera didn't store the pics for some reason.
