How about a cj3, Miata engine, sportage trans and transfer case, megasquirt... Fun little cruiser, modern reliability and double the hp of the original? What say you?

I was thinking about a Jeep with a Zetec. Since I have a 2.3 Lima bellhousing with the Ford Butterfly bell to gear box pattern and that pattern is the same on the tranny/xfer case from a CJ-5 we have at my dads house. Modify the bellhousing slightly for the Zetec and bam! - DOHC 2.0 in a jeep.

Novak Adapters has an adapter too.

As a Jeep guy I'm torn. Either of those mills would be an improvement but it's such sacriledge. Joey, are you still looking to sell your TJ? One thought. If that Jeep will see off-road duty you might want to think of a mill that doesn't have to rev much...

why not just use the FE3 from the sportage along with the trans/tcase? other than to say you put a miata engine in a jeep, that is.

2.0l dohc vs 1.6 or 1.8 dohc. FE3 was a mazda engine to begin with anyways...

Mainly... I already have a Miata 1.6 sitting in the garage!

Still going to sell it. I'm waiting for the weather to break so I can clean it up, do some stuff to make it more pretty.

I know it's sacrilege but there are alot of willys out there in need of an engine! And I have one!

Having owned a CJ-3a with a Buick 3.8, who cares about what engine is in it? They're farm impliments; ours still had the PTO out the back for running field equipment.

(Thats not ours however, but an unique/cool picture)

Some Samurai guys were putting in VW diesels to great success.

These guys will sell you a kit to put a TDI into a YJ. (TJs are next, apparently.) No affiliation at all; I just think it's cool that they're in Vancouver, BC.

The CJ's with the original Willys engine were 2.6 L either flat head or later with an F head. They were small bore with a long stroke. All good for low end power. Later CJ 5's had Kaiser/Willys version of the Buick 225 cu.in. engine.

And, it should be noted, that the Jeep in the photo is not the perfectly proportioned CJ3A, but rather the hideous CJ3B.

+1
The 3B is fugly. Yes it was done to accomodate a taller engine (and more HP) and Pamala's boob skin was streched to accomodate larger bresticles. She's still ugly.

When you decide to let it go, shoot me a PM. I might be looking for a YJ or TJ this spring/summer.
Can you say diesel-powered Jeep running on veggie oil?

Sure, but I'm going to try and get top dollar for this thing, k need to pay myself back for the ranger I just bought... Also, how is a diesel TJ any less sacrilegious than a bp powered cj3? ;)
