I know there is some Mazda3 love on this board. My wife's 08 Mazda3 needs new struts up front (shocks in the rear which were replaced about 2 years ago). Car is a straight up kid hauler, city cruiser, with an occasional long highway trip from time to time. It is the 2.3 wagon model and is currently all stock.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to get, and where to get it.

Thanks

I have a 10 Mazda 5 and had one of the rear shocks replaced in the back. It was replaced with an oem part. Not sure who makes it but I have no complaints about it. Otherwise, i'd probably go with KYB GR-2s since its a daily driver.

We have 2 3s, both hatches with the 2.3. One has Koni FSD shocks with Eibach springs, the other has standard springs and Monroe shocks. The ride is similar, but the car with the Konis handles much better with better high speed body control. Even with nearly 75k miles on the Konis they are great. The Monroe's are nearly new, we we going cheap on that car, so no idea how they will wear.

I put KYB Gas-a-justs on the rear of the Maz5. They're basically a step up from the oem-replacement GR-2, but still inexpensive imho ($50 a piece). Overall, they're on the firm side of a non-performance damper which made the handling more crisp at the cost of some minor ride comfort. Mostly, it was simply a little more noise/vibration over rough freeways and expansion joints (i.e. nothing you would notice under 50mph). I'm fairly happy with them for the price, but they're nothing special. I'd gander their force-vs-velocity "curve" would be pretty linear.

I'm pretty curious about the Koni FSD. Everything I've read says they're most likely the best all-around damper, but the price difference is pretty staggering. That said, if you plan to keep the car for awhile and want it to be as good as possible I'd strongly consider those. At times I wished I had splurged on them instead.

I would go with OEM. It will be hard for other companies to match the ride quality.
