No Mazdaspeed version, no care.

A factory boosted ND would be mega.

And the necessary transmission to handle the additional power would be a boon to all ND owners.

And there should be enough similiarity in the engines to offer it in a Mazdaspeed 3 as well.   Two birds, one boosted stone...

Wait...

I just realized I described the Fiata -- boosted ND with stronger NC transmission.  Huh...wonder why that never caught on?

Styling perhaps?  Easily fixed with a Mazda version.

In reply to Andy Hollis :

Because there's more to an engine than just "turbocharger". It was a little engine with degraded throttle response relative to the Miata. The extra 100 lbs on the nose dulled the handling. Some people preferred the styling but as a sports car thr Miata was clearly superior dynamically - and faster. I've driven the Fiat and the ND1 back to back on track at similar levels of modification and the 124 just didn't measure up. Then Mazda introduced the ND2 and it was game over.

In 35 years of the Miata, there was a year and a half where we had a turbo version. It wasn't particularly GOOD out of the box, and there where changes through the whole car to help it survive even with the fact that it was inherently beefier than the ND.

This isn't a MSM, it's an M Edition. Which sold better :)

Fine.  I'll just go buy an aftermarket turbo kit then.  cheeky

The best stuff from the Club (Bilsteins and LSD) got integrated into the GT a couple of years ago IIRC. They became an option in 2019, under the short-lived GT-S moniker, now standard. You can't get the Name Brand Package (Brembo/BBS/Recaro) in the GT, nor does it get the track mode traction control setting. But otherwise, the GTs are basically Clubs with luxe.

I didn't realize that, but then I hadn't followed the ND development much lately until I bought my Club.

The lack of LSD was one of the main annoyances with my ND1 Launch Edition so it's good to see they eventually rectified that.

Something I don’t think we have discussed yet: Even though the ND is entering its 10th model year, I think it still looks fresh.

I feel like a jade green one is a missed opportunity

Yes, more green Miatas, please.

Mazda and missed color opportunities is probably the biggest gripe about the ND. The fact that they have made the 25th and now this 30th AE with more interesting colors must be like salt in the wounds of the Miata faithful.

I can't believe there isn't a meme for Miatas and colors.

And the ND is 10 years old now, wow! I agree it still looks fresh. The ND3 update helped too. I did not like those old DRLs.

A factory turbo Miata that is properly sorted would have me considering taking the BRZ back to stock to sell and picking one up.
