I've wanted to put one of these motors in the Escort just to be strange. But i imagine the wiring and packaging would be a nightmare.

ive heard the blowers are pricey if they go, compared to say a $100 m90 rebuild.

Ive driven one, its a decent car with decent power, but taking a 2.3L in a 3000+ lb car, making it run a not-powerful millaer cycle, and putting a supercharger on it all basically get you right back where other cars are with 3.0s and 3.5s. Whereas, if i take a 3.0 maxima of the same year and put 30 psi of boost through it somehow, i am in the 10s.

I think it is something closer to 14psi.

You also have to remember this car was sold in other countries, countries that tax vehicle registration fees according to displacement. I always figured we got this "smallish" engined Millenia in order to give Mazda a chance to get rid of the oversupply of this model....it wasn't all that popular, ANYWHERE. Interesting concept, tho.

That probably seemed attractive when they were new, but now buying a $2000 car knowing that it has a major $1000 liability sitting on top of its rare motor is probably less appealing.
On the other hand, i know for a fact you can AVERAGE 27 mpg in a $2000 vq30 maxima, get a fatory 5spd, go faster, not have to cycle through every setting to change which vents are blowing, and not worry about anything on the motor letting go. And if it does, the motors are plentiful, and if you decide to drop in a vq35 instead you can squeak a high 13 out of it with no other changes.
I mean, dont get me wrong, i like millenia S's (especially the later styling) and i would own one for the right price.. but the fact that it has a semi-expensive supercharger is not much of a plus in my opinion. If it was a $200 m90, it WOULD be a plus.
They can be great cars if you take care of them. I work at a Mazda dealer and the most things that go wrong with them is the vacumn tees under the upper intake manifold and the supercharger can make some funny noises. Maintenance is definitely key on one. Axles go up and cost a whole heap.
They're not performance cars by any means, but the Miller Cycle engine is very cool. I've always kind of wanted one. There has to be SOME way to squeeze more power out of it.
count me in as curious about how that would work out. A millenia whose power and speed justified the presence of expensive and rare parts would move it up my 'to-do list' by a whole lot. Im a big fan of mazdas and powerful sedans.
It already makes decent power... I think the correct approach here would be putting it in a more suitable chassis.
That motor in a 2g MX6 or an MX3, hell a Miata, Protege, 323?

decent power? yes and no. If all you know is that it's a 2.3 liter that makes 210hp, it's impressive-ish. The dimensions are not compact however. They are not light weight, nor simple.
It was my understanding that the supercharger's main purpose was as a check valve so the MAF didn't go all wiggy from the undoubtedly strong intake pulses. The little bit of boost on top is a nice touch to bring power back to a little above naturally aspirated levels.
And yes, they are huge, they are to a 626 what an Avalon is to a Camry.
On a Miller cycle engine, the purpose of the supercharger is to make up for the charge lost by the intake valve not closing until ~25% of the way through the compression stroke.
Millenia S's were cool, but man alive do NOT let one go lean, they'll blowtorch a piston almost instantly. Otherwise, the only real problem I saw was EGR malfunctions.
I always wanted to put one of those motors. Change the cam to a more normal one and then put a M62 on it. The motors them self are really cool pieces of engineering. Split crank cases. I read some were that allot of racing / F1 type tech went in to those back in the day. I see so much potential for that motor just loose the cam and the stock compressor.
Ohya you can get the stock used compressors for those motors on eBay. They are usually between $100-$300. I was thinking of using one as they are very long and thin compared to other units.
