Awesome, the thread's back!
I've thought about an ST too. I think I'm going to end up buying the next-gen Mazdaspeed 3 instead though, unless the new WRX is really amazing or something. In another two years when I'm shopping for a DD the 2 is going to be basically worthless as a trade, so it's going to become a B-Spec car or a turbo track/canyon car with a cage and everything.
i just cant stomach more than a 400 car payment. thats why im stopping at hte ST price. otherwise the focus ST is my hatch choice. I just want a fun under 20K car. mazda 3 just isnt anywhere in there with a warranty.

The 2 looks giant compared to the Miata!
I drove a Fiesta ST at a Ford Ecoboost challenge event. There is no comparison between the two... the Fiesta ST is far and away a better car. I really wanted one, but I paid $13,800 for the Mazda and a Fiesta ST w/ Recaro seats came out to like $24,000 and change. It's a great car, but 24k is C5 Z06 money and I couldn't justify it.
I also drove a Fiesta ST at the Ecoboost challenge and completely agree. So much more car than a 2!. I wouldn't get the Recaros either. The stock seats have enough bolstering for a DD.
is there something else that could compete with the ST in the same price range you think?
Mazda is actually picking my up 2 locally for some emission testing, so they will give me 150 bucks, let me drive around a 2014 mazda6, return the 2 with a full tank of gas, vac and wash my car! not too shabby!
Now that this thread is active again, I'd like a little input from the M2 owners. Any minor gripes with the 2? Can the HVAC system keep up with extreme temps?
A local dealer seems to be interested in making a decent deal on a '13 manual sport, and my fuel savings will make up for the payment.
The HVAC is a little bit weak when it's really really hot but in general it's decent. It's better than my '09 Civic was.
I think my HVAC works excellent, but my windows are tinted too so that helps. My only beef with it is the driver side center vent doesn't hold enough tension like the other vents so on some bumps it starts to fall and close slowly.
but this mazda6 is excellent! I can't wait to try the diesel, even though its automatic that I got its still pretty good. except the steering wheel is too small... but thats just me,
HVAC is fine in mine. Not amazing but perfectly good. The door looks drive me nuts on mine. They obvious designed the car for keyless entry which I hate and didn't order. That was a mistake. I dislike the clutch on mine - can be a bit abrupt. Sad when my 44 year Mercedes has a better clutch. I like everything else. Super easy to do maintenance on.
The AC is adequate, but it takes a few minutes longer than I like to cool things down when it has been sitting in the sun on a hot day. Covered parking is your best friend in the summer.

The clutch evidently has some stupid thing that's supposed to make it harder for newbie drivers to stall the car out. It makes it suck for people like us, though. I hear it's totally transformed with an aftermarket clutch kit so the issue must be a weird pressure plate or throwout bearing or something.
Defroster like in every Mazda I've owned is weak. As for the clutch it did take some time getting used to, once I installed the Racing Beat muffler and could hear the car more I found I got better. There are still times where I get it wrong and feel like I'm brand new at driving a stick again.
I love this thread ; my 5 has the same clutch and boy is it annoying. 56k miles later and I still feel like an idiot taking off from a stop light sometimes.

Just a question to Mazda2 sport owners...
When I bought my car it was missing the remote entry fob with the switchblade key. The dealer told me they would find it, or make me a new one and all would be well. They are now trying to convince me that the Mazda2 sport with a manual transmission does not come with the remote entry.
The window sticker, brochure, and website say otherwise. I test drove one not too long ago and I could have sworn that it came with one too. Could you confirm this with me?

Tint helped a LOT in the Fit.

I test drove a 2013 Sport MT yesterday, and it did not come with keyless entry or a switchblade key.

My 2 didn't come with remote entry but our trim level in Canada were a bit different.

Interesting, I keep hearing conflicting reports on this. I called Mazda corporate today and they assured me that the base 2 sport should have keyless entry. They opened up a "case" and told me to call back if the dealer gave me any trouble with it. We'll see how this plays out.
Ive had the new 6 for a week now, im getting rid of my truck and my 2 for a diesel6
Shot some video in (on?) the 2 while cruising home across the infamous Mulholland Drive earlier.

My 2012 2 Sport came with One switchblade key and One normal [non-remote] key.
Does anyone else's clutch make clicking noises upon release? Looks almost like the lubrication on the spring isn't enough whenever I get on & off it it sounds like a clicking/clunking sound.
I have about 12k on the car and lately I find myself getting bored of it. Been doing a lot of highway driving and think it's nearing time for something more suited for long drives. I will likely be returning the car to stock form, selling off the parts and finding the replacement in late winter.
Can you let me know what you all paid for your 2's? We are considering one for my wife. Thanks!

Let me know when you are ready to start putting the car back to stock. I just ordered a set of TR C1M's, but might want to have a 2nd set for the Miata. I was thinking about placing an order for a racing beat muffler and some suspension goodies too... I'll just wait til you're ready to put yours back to stock and maybe we can work something out. I'm local and you pretty much have every mod I would want to do to mine on your car already. I'd be interested in the wheels, exhaust, springs, etc as a total package.

Sounds good. I'd likely be putting her back to stock in October/November after the last autocross events and before it gets too cold out to do it in the driveway. I also have a set of stainless brake hoses that haven't been installed. We can work something out around that time.
