I dunno. I felt "swallowed" by my brother's old G35 coupe. I suppose the sedan would feel a little less coffin-like. Didn't care for the coupe.

And I'd be interested in the angrymobile, but I've owned exactly one car from Michigan, and I swore it would be the last. No offense. Kisses.
understood. i'm also trying to avoid buying Michigan cars.

Same here.
I'd always thought they were attractive cars, then happened to pass one in a mall parking lot while the owner was loading it and did a double take at the trunk/hatch area.
Friend of mine has the exact car you want poopy. Over 150k on it though. That thing has FREAKISH cargo capacity.
Went to the range with my old neighbor one day, I had never taken much notice of his 6 till that day. When he was pulling toys from his stash I asked if we were taking two vehicles. Got out to load up in the garage, he pops the hatch, folds the seat and bingo we've got plenty of room. It was like a chorus of heavenly voices. Stick, seating for 4, 5 for short periods of time, and a cargo swallowing hatch all in one. SWMBO vetoed it though, "no 4 doors, we don't need em right now!" (side note, I think I may be the only married guy in the world with that problem)
If only they had made the MS6 with a hatch (or better yet the wagon!) I would own one now instead of my 3rd Volvo Turbo wagon.
Do you think a manufacturer might make what the enthusiast's want if we do a "group buy"? Say 1000 deposits and they build a kick-ass reasonably priced AWD diesel 6 speed MANUAL wagon that isn't German/won't nickel and dime you to death? I'll be at the front of the line provided they don't make me buy things I don't want (sunroof, leather, roof rack) and let me add what I want (NAV, HIDs, LSD, cool paint colors-even if its the base model).
My sister had a Mazda6 hatchback. It was a 4 cylinder 5-speed, and was quite nice. You can tell them apart from the sedans by the rear wiper. I think my sister regrets both leasing that car (dumb in her situation) and getting rid of it. I liked it when I drove it, and wouldn't mind a V6 powered one if such a thing exists.
Chris
I didnt realize they were so rare. I uwas tripping over them when I was looking for a mz6 manual wagon. In fact there's a pretty sweet one on my local classifieds right now .
I'm wondering what the inline-four with a manual trans is like in these cars. Rare on the ground around here; cars.com lists two 6 hatches with the 2.3 and a manual trans within a 500 mile radius of me. Looks like they're rated at 21/28 mpg so the mileage isn't quite what I was hoping for...

a friend had a 2nd-gen with 4cyl/stick, and it was adequate.

They exist, and sound proper wicked with a set of headers and a decent Magnaflow.
I've had both a loaded 2007 V6/5-speed Mazda 6 (sedan, though) as well as a 2004 G35 sedan, and while I liked both, I would take another G35 over the Mazda. It feels a bit smaller, which I actually like since I tend to hate cars that feel american super sized. Also the G35 definitely feels better built, quicker, and more solid. While the Mazda was nice and I had no issues, it couldn't really hide from it's econo 4 cyl roots in a lot of the fit and finish. Also, AWD is available on the G if you should need it (though auto only) and RWD vs. FWD was a win for me too. Again, no real complaints on my 6, but I traded it after a year.
