One of my coworkers has a relative who's looking to sell a Jaguar XJS 12 cylinder convertible.  She wasn't sure how much they're asking but was thinking it's in the $7,000 - $8,000 range.  I don't know what the going rates are for those cars but she showed me a few pictures and it looks to be in good condition.  The car is in Montana, let me know if there's any interest.

I gotta ask what's up with the huge fan aimed at the driver. It's a convertible so only thing I could come up with is it's for the full experience when making vroom vroom noises in the garage.

Selling price here in America is going up but not as quickly as in England.  Price is totally dependent on condition and what year. After Ford bought Jaguar and spent a fortune improving quality and reliability those have been selling well, some over $15,000

While pre Ford are languishing between $3,000- $7,000.    Rust drops selling prices like a brick. Non running or needing work scares off most buyers and prices reflect that.

I don't know the exact year but it appears to be a series II (pre-Ford ownership.)  I checked completed auctions on eBay and found prices for convertibles generally in the $5k to $9k range, so at $7k to $9k this one is at least in the right ballpark.

I have no idea.  My guess, based on the little flag stuck in the console, is he used it in a parade and needed some extra ventilation while driving at 2 mph.

What's up with the chunk of 2X? behind the seats?

Cars accepted at auctions tend to be towards the top end in condition rather than the average.  Assuming this car is in that range those prices could be correct.

Again, I have no idea.  I haven't seen the car in person, I'm just posting it as a favor for my coworker.

Recline mechanism is likely broken.

Does it run? Does it drive? Does the AC work? Has it been sitting? Any rust?

All the questions and more should be a factor before price is a discussion.

In my (limited) experience, most of these have (significant) issues and sellers tend to overestimate their value.

That’s how I score the good deals that there are on cars like that. Owners over price their cars and sit on them way too long.  Especially if they have issues.

If I see a car that Interests me I watch it. Once it becomes “stale” I’ll add it to my call list.  Then when money shows up I’ll start making calls and sooner or later I’ll score what I want at a price I’m willing to pay.

It supposedly is in very good condition and runs well.  Again, I have not seen it myself - I'm just passing on that the owner wants to sell it.  The pictures above are all I have.  The coworker who told me about it is not a car person, so I don't have any more information.
