Always liked the lines on MGAs and TR3s and in an automotive ADD addled state have been thinking of doing a tube-chassis with a shell or fiberglass facsimile of a shell attached - perhaps same wheelbase - 88" TR - 94" MG, but wider track - 56-60" vs 47". The question of the day - what driveline - suggested donors for biggest bang/buck? Any guesses how heavy the total package would come in at?
Off the top of my head...a TR3 "shell" over TR8 running gear. (Keeps it "all in the family".)

I'm not above blasphemy - german/japanese in a brit shell. Actually was thinking S10 or kia sportage for a donor...
I wondered why you were on this side of the fence instead of over on the Classic Motorsports site with this question.
Blasphemy, but I like it.
I like the KA24DE from the Nissan 240 SX. They're silly cheap, and kinda torquey for a 4-cylinder.
4.3 V6 from an S-10 is a very doable option also.
Luckily he didn't put on the CMS site because they would want to hang him from the nearest yard arm.
I've saw one guy who split a TR3 down the middle and added seveal inches in the middle. It is a LOT of work, but looked pretty nice. Some folks ahv e put a TR3 on a TR6 frame which isn't as easy as it sounds. ISTR one guy put a Jag V-12 in a Spitfire, but I don't thing it ever got finished. Seems like he called it the Spit Cat.
I agree with Tom about the KA 24DE. I would like to see one in a TR3.
Well, they're frame cars, so swapping the body shell or panels to another frame isn't so hard. Especially if you're willing to go crude.
Easiest would be to use a small truck. They come with the suspension and frame all built in. Then do the cutting necessary to align the wheels and drop the tub onto it. S10 is the basis for many kits and has a lot of aftermarket support.
