I know a LOT of these have this issue. Is this usually a bad idea to try and fix?

I'd kind of like to have another Swift, but they're hard to find...

thanks, Stan

I wouldn't be afraid of trying to fix it.

Though, I would try cutting off most of the front frame and fab something tubular like this guy did...

If they need fixing, they're usually too far gone to repair properly with any decent amount of ease.

There are certainly no shortage of decent ones out there. If you want a GT, I've seen a lot for sale recently. Keep an eye on Teamswift, and geo metro forum. There's a near mint GT for sale in western NY state right now.

If your going to do something like the above pic I hope its done much better, crimped tubing is bad news and for sure those lca mounts need to be supported better than that shows as does the strut tops. The awd monster geo I'm building suffers from a little cancer to the lca mounts that the guy above cut off,I fabbed a lower brace as I figured they would be weak before racing it for 2 seasons. With no engine up front now I pulled the brace off and tried pulling those mounts together with a come-along and BFH to add some caster-couldn't move them at all.I guess they aren't that weak even with some rot after all.
