Since you're not a top level driver, you should get the wheels you like the most, which is #1. I like the #3 wheels the best. For a 9" wide wheel, why aren't you looking for a 245 or 255 width tire, which fits and handles better than a 225 tire.

Because that tire doesn't exist.
Well, besides the 245/40-15 Maxxis RC-1s, which i think you'll have a hard time getting right about now.

that's the advantage of the Z214's
they don't have quite the grip of the A6's (A7's), but they cost quite a bit less, and last MUCH longer …
I use them as TT tires on my CRX, and they last forever … not sure how they'd last for a-x, but I'm betting you'd get a season at least

That doesn't exist in a diameter that works on a miata, However: the 225/45-15 Toyo R1R is 8.9" section width and 8.3" tread width on a 7.5" wheel, it works just fine on a 9" wheel too...
Granted, it's not perfect, but we don't really have many other options in a 245/40-15 other than the new Maxxis tire.

...and which are also a track tire like the RRs, rather than an autocross tire like the C71 compound Hankooks. I'd love a 245 tire, but they are few and far between.

Autolex, how much did you have to roll the fenders for that?
I very much like my 15x9 Storms, only required a tiny spacer and some fender tweaking up front.
6ULs are cool... but not cheap and almost always out of stock.

Can you post any pics? Thanks.

This is almost exactly what my car would look like. I'm not seeing much to hate here. Still wish they were available in bronze.

as I said earlier.. the C71 compound is excellent for a-x (basically a poor mans A6) but it is even better as a track tire (on light weight cars … depending on the setup) they last forever and again are basically a poor mans A6
the way they were described to me prior to my first purchase:
" they cost ~ 75-80% of the Hoosier, they grip ~ 75-80% (or better) of the Hoosier and last ~ 300% of the Hoosier
since I have zero chance (in a full field) of making the podium at my TT's … there's no sense in putting out the $$ for the Hoosiers ( the extra sec. wouldn't get me to the podium) ...
Pretty big. Some vendors (like Tire Rack) ship them with appropriate centering rings, others don't. I run mine lug centric. I'd estimate the bore to be at least 67mm, but that's based on memory instead of actual measurement.
I just ordered 1 in grey thanks to christmas gift cards, 15x9 12.1lbs 35 offset 73.1 bore

We'll see when taxes are done if I can afford another 3 and tires lol.
This thread is relevant to me for tire choice however. I was planning on going 225/45/15 or something RC-1s or NT01s because A) I have my daisies with star specs right now I could still use B) I run in a non BMW class with BMWCCA so the only thing I have to run is a DoT legal tire.
I would maybe like to be able to be lazy and leave the tires on the car and have about a 35mile drive to the autocross location each way. My friends said doing that on RC-1 or NT01 when not wet is something they would have no issue with.
These C214's however sound more aggressive a la hoosiers? And that might be a nono? Also I don't have the power issues you mentioned since I am mostly stock but I am putting on FCM coil overs and rolling fenders for the 15x9s soon. Looks like 225/45/15 is the biggest 15" C214 and their cost is as much as the 245/40/15 RC-1s
Yeah, you absolutely would not want to run the Z214 C71s on the street, even in the dry. They're just too soft and you'd use them up going to and from the events, not to mention they'd pick up every little bit of gravel you ran over and hurl it at your rockers. C51 compound is harder, and you would have better luck, but you'd still be using up an expensive, dedicated competition tire shlepping back and forth the the event.
If you don't want to change tires, you're better off with Rivals, Star Specs, or whatever the hot ST tire du jour is.
Those Avanti Aero S1s just knocked the Jongbloed Aero 500s out of my list of potential wheel choices when I go to 15x8s...
Do you need a spacer for these? Keith are you running a spacer as well? Or is that because you don't run coil overs Snow?

The 15x8 Advanti has the wrong offset - it's a +25. The Jongbloeds have the correct +36. FYI.
I don't have spacers on my wheels. I do have coilovers with 2.5" springs.
I'm moving to a 15x10 with a 245. That's going to take some work to fit under my pretty little fenders.

Yeah I'm looking more at +25 now, that's the offset of my current wheels and it should fit better, although the car was designed for +38.

Have any used 15x9 packages you're looking to unload?

I was asking because A) they look pretty good … and B) in my case they would be for a CRX which has a larger center bore than does the Miata

Yup, the CRX is just a bit bigger than the Miata IIRC. I'll check next time I have my wheels off. Tire Rack shows that the 15x7 will fit an 88 CRX, so I imagine there's lots of room for your hubs.

When the time comes, I'll list them here first. Not sure if it's the 15x8 or the 15x9s that will go. Probably a set of 15x8 6ULs.
OK, thanks. If I'm buying new wheels, I'm going to 9". Can't justify the expense to only add 1" width over the 15x7s I run now.

You don't have to sawzall the fender, might require a bit of rolling but not much, at least on an NB. Thats the other great thing about Miata's they are light so the HoHo's will last all year even with a co driver unless you got some great concrete surfaces that like to eat tires.
