So my 96 Miata died on me a couple of weeks ago while driving. I couldn't get my scanner to work but the old internets pointed to a bad CAS. Got a used one and put it in Friday. Still not running. Saturday I got a scanner and it says CAS. Ok maybe I got a bad used one or maybe it's wiring. Anyone know the pin out for the plug?  I can at least see if any are shorted to each other or ground.

What's the actual code? I can pull up the Mazda troubleshooting process for it. It has a number of associated codes.

Sorry long day at work.  I have these codes.

P0140 - Spec Miata exhaust

P0115 - I have noticed it's rich at cold idle.  I'll fix that after it's running

P0340 - Internet says CAS.

P0340:

The pins on a 1996 CAS are:

  • W/R switched power
  • Y/L NE signal to ECU pin 4G
  • W SGT signal to ECU pin 4F
  • B/LG ground to ECU pin 4A and everywhere else :)

Most likely failure mode is a cracked wire inside the CAS harness where it flexes near the connector.

Thanks guys.  Hopefully I can look at it tomorrow.
