I'm building a rollbar for a Mazdaspeed Miata. Because of the owners size and wanting to keep things "stockish", I'm putting the harness bar back on the rear hoop braces.
Having never replaced a Miata's fuel pump, I have no idea how tall they are/how much clearance is needed to get them out.
Do I have enough clearance Clarence?
When I pack them to ship out they are about 19". looks like you have created a bit of a snag. nice to catch it now! good for u!
I went out and took a few pics for you in the shop
Curious, why not just take the screws out and see if you can wiggle it out, its pretty simple.
the bar in my race car is angled a bit more than yours, and seems to be a bit higher
Thanks Willy! Just what I needed! I don't think I'll have a problem with clearance now that I've seen the pickup and pump assembly.
The reasons I don't just pop it open is that I really don't want the gas fumes in the shop when I'll be welding pretty quickly afterwards, they have those goofy new style interlocking lines and inevitably, something will go wrong that will come out of my pocket ;)
I just learned a bunch of stuff that I never even thought of before. Thanks.

Just make sure he has no intentions of ever swapping for a glass-window top.
The glass top will rest on the bar if it stays where it is. I haven't been able to get back to it yet. I think I will attempt to remove the pump just to be sure.

Fixed that for you.
??? Top's been up and down about eleventy billion times during the build. I hate 'verts ;)
He puts the top down, window rests on the harness bar. This is absolutely wonderful until he drives on a road that is less than perfect. Hits a good bump and CRACK! There goes the window.
