So I have disassembled my center console for a turret rebuild, and I decided to drive the car just for the hell of it.So driving along just cruising and I finally got bored and gave the old girl the beans. Under load in 3rd and 4th gear it sounds like someone is ringing a bell under he car or something, shifts great as always.... Should I be concerned?

Haven't heard one ringing like a bell before. Mine sounds like a supercharger, it's pretty fun.

I get some really good clatter in about every gear between 3000 and 4000rpms, just assume it's the flywheel making noise.

a ringing is interesting.

Evan, I've been getting a supercharger whine from my intake since I replaced the belts, it's oddly disturbing, but probably just a gap in the intake tubing.

In reply to RevRico:

My intake sounds more like a turbo.

Even helical gears will whine a little under load.

When I replace a clutch in a TR6, I always go for a short test drive before putting the trans cover and center console back in. That means driving the car while seeing the entire transmission. It's pretty frightening what noises come out of that thing, especially with an overdrive unit. Every time I've put the cover back on and all is well. As long as it's not grinding badly or making some sort of clatter, you're probably fine. The ringing is just as likely coming from the exhaust.
