Well, my Miata let me down today. The last two weeks I have been thinking the clutch has been feeling less than stellar. With my jobless situation right now I shudder to think about how much a clutch will cost me. Well, I was comoing back from the parts store Saturday morning (getting parts for a side-job, trying to make enough money to buy a clutch) and the timing belt breaks!! I suppose I can't complain though. I mean, it was 50 degrees and sunny outside, not raining, snowing, tornadoing, hailing or fire-and-brimstoning as usually happens when a car I own brakes down. So, today I start replacing the timing belt and saving up for the clutch. Any recommendations on where to get the clutch or what brand?? It's stock.

Go to your Mazda dealer and get their "value" brand. It's an OEM part (not Original Equipment, but Original Equipment Manufacturer) and inexpensive. I've heard the pilot bearings are a bit questionable, so you might want to pick up some alternates there.

The pilot bearings aren't necessarily OE (and neither is the TO bearing). They're bought from whatever decent quality supplier can ship to the Exedy warehouse near Detroit.

DrBoost, call Quality Clutches in Dearborn. Ricky will quote you a good price, and he'll pick the kit up from the Exedy warehouse. It may be worth a trip to Dearborn.

Mazda OES prices very competitively, so you may not be able to beat their price.
