I can only hope this photo is staged.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't staged.
I took my MR2 to get an emissions test at a local Jiffy Lube (mistake no.1). I had to run into the bay screaming "IT'S REAR-WHEEEEEEELLL DRIIIIIIVE!!!" before they launched it out of the bay or caused damage with the front wheels on the rollers.
One would think that the engine configuration would have been a tip-off.
They couldn't even get it to "test" correctly and I had to take it to another testing facility, where the ol' girl passed without a problem. Sheesh.

The guy I bought my Miata from thought it was FWD when he bought it for his college-age son. He discovered it wasn't when he put it up on a lift to do the brakes. Yes, he owns a local muffler shop, and he thought Miatas were FWD.
On the Speed Channel show about Kit cars, they compared a kit Lambo to a real one. The owner of the Lambo watched them strap his car to the dyno at the rear wheels and was surprised to find out that it in fact was all wheel drive! Could have been a very bad day! I guess it shows that having enough money to buy a car doesn't mean that you actually know anything about it.
I read this a few weeks ago on Auto Blog and just shook my head.

My senior year in High School, 1989, a friend and I were trolling car lots for cool used cars to test drive. We went to a Chevy dealer and out front they had a 4 banger Mustang with something like "Gas saver, front wheel drive" on the windshield. Scary.
If i remember correctly, the OP's picture was NOT a hoax. It was an advertising picture of some sort for a tech college.
Ouch.
My wife and I were riding to a concert with a friend of friend in his TSX. He kept going on about how his car was so awesome because it was AWD. I might have corrected him, but he was driving like such an asshat (trying to impress us) that I thought his fragile ego probably couldn't take it. That, and I think he deserved to be ridiculed by someone much more vitriolic than myself.
People continue to amaze and dismay me, but not surprise me. That BMW statistic is proof.
In a subversion of this, the guy that did the safety/emissions on my Elan said to me afterwards "I always thought these things were mid-engined!"
One of my friends is a police officer, and he recently related to me how some punk in a Hyundai explained that he didn't have a loud exhaust, it was his "Bee Oh Vee".

That you could almost forgive for.
Who in their right mind (other than GM) would think that Lotus would make a FWD sports car?
And how many M100s is the guy likely to ever have seen?

I could understand that.
Years ago I pulled into a Buick dealer in my TR-4A to look at a TR8 they had on the lot. The sales guy said something like since your car is an automatic it would be easier to sell, assuming the A meant automatic. They he proceeded to tell me how he had the TR8 over 150mph on a test drive earlier in the day...I asked how that was possible since it wouldn't do anywhere near that speed. His answer was the speedometer said it would, until I pointed out that it only went up to 80mph....shesh....
This has been tossed around over at The Car Lounge quite a few times. This is copy-pasted from a post by a user named TheGreenspanator:
"Instructor at UTI in Exton, PA asked some students to go ahead and load a Miata on the dyno, said he'd be right over to check it out..... this pic is what he found when he went to check on them He wasn't the one who took the pic though, that I didn't get the details on. Apparently they've done this to a Camaro before too. He stopped the madness before any damage was done."
