If I were ever so inclined to build a mid-engine Prius, that pic pretty well sums up about how far into the project I'd make it, and also the extent of my fab skills. 
When did they start making the Prius. Once they hit fifteen years old no more obd2 test so they will become a fun option here in MA
Ok the wiki is you friend. Started sales in the U.S. in 2000 so get a 2000 and you can convert it to any motor you want and be exempt from the obd2 test at inspection so it would be street legal.

That was the first gen, an Echo with a load of batteries in 2000. You have 3 more years for the iconic 2nd gen.
Back to the original post, didn't someone haul an SBC in the back of a smart? Although that might have just been a short block.
