this might come off as a reallllly dumb question; but, I've been researching potential carb setups for the beetle. I was looking at solex carburetors and everywhere I look I see "mikuni/solex". Using common sense I figured they're the same thing, but I couldn't find anything defenitive.
Do they have the same internals and one is downdraft vs sidedraft?
yes- No- either or, copyright and Patents. I've used Mikuni's on my Harleys that were Side draft but won't work in an upright positon. Holley parts fit a Demon, but they are not the same carb.
