So another thought I had is try and take advantage of a Milwaukee promotion.  IE, buy this tool and we'll include two new batteries and a charger.  I could use maybe a mid torque impact or something, are they running any promotions like that?

Get something that is going to have you using those batteries more, that will help with their longevity

I actually use the impact a decent amount, it's just old.  Like, really old, maybe 8+ years or more

I have a "Milwaukee" deal alert on SlickDeals (no affiliation, but I've saved a ton of $$$ through their deal threads).

Usually the deals on cordless are between Nov 1-end of year.

I own damned near every cordless tool in the Ryobi universe and bought almost all of it around Black Fridays over the past few years.

I agree with the others.  I hobby use my Ryobi cordless tools and have found them to be effective and they feel as though they are built for the long haul.

I would suggest buying just the tool you want right now and augment your collection in Nov-Dec as you wish.

I have a cheapo bootleg battery for my "porter cable" 20v stuff. Ive been satisfied with it. Order one on amazon, test it out. If it sucks, return it and try another.

If you give up on this stuff, send it to me and I'll replace the cells and gift it to a Tunakid

I have the Ryobi HP One+ brushless 18v impact. I like it, very compact for the power and works well with all the other Ryobi tools I got with it (brushless impact, drill, and angle grinder, plus the brushed ratchet, 2 big batteries, 2 small batteries, and a charger for $500 was too good of a deal to pass up). I say go for it if you already have batteries.
