The Mini motor could make an interesting swap donor for various RWD cars: (Spitfire, Midget, Sprite, LoCost)
Relatively plentiful, light, compact, makes decent power.
Big hurdle is the transmission.
Anything from the BMW parts bin that would mate up?
Mini or MINI? With the former being a A-series there are plenty of options.
IIRC the (older?) BINI engines are Chrysler Neon based so I'd check that parts bin, not the BMW one.

Yeah, name the actual motor, or source of motor, as "Mini" doesn't really mean much on its own.

My understanding is that pretty much any engine will work with any transmission if you are or happen to know a good machinist.
just move the motor to the rear of the car or have awd and keep and motor in the front.

Proven to work with both platforms

Yeah, well I DID reference BMW in my original post.
As sharp as this group is, I'm a bit disappointed.
I'll be explicit then for those who didn't care to wade through all 3 lines:
I'm talking new Mini here, the 1600 cc DOHC motors.
And sure, anyone can build their own bellhousing.
I have machine tools (lathe, mill, etc.) and know how to use them.
I even have foundry capability to cast my own.
That said, it would be kind of lame to do that if an OEM piece exists.
In reply to Slippery:
If you're into branding and letting companies dictate your language sure. But Mini and a reference to BMW is plenty clear.

So the Prince engines. The 2012-2015 320i would be my starting point. That application would also have RWD manifolds and such.

You sound like a very serious guy ... same as the OP
Ugh, do not want. There are so many other cheaper and more reliable N-S 4cyl. engine options out there...

Thanks, just the info I need to advance my evaluation.
