I'd like to get a set of Koni yellows to replace the wallowy stock dampers on my 2013 Mustang. I noticed that TR only has rears in stock and fronts on back order. Assuming I can't find the fronts separately or a whole set elsewhere, what would the effects be of having the stock GT dampers up front and Konis in the rear? Would I be better off waiting for the fronts to arrive and replace them all at once?

I'm debating whether or not to pull the trigger on dampers so soon after buying the car. The fact that Konis are on sale till the end of the month isn't helping...

I'd be interested to know, but my first guess would be:
- rear end is more stable in transitions
- rear end is more stable in mid-corner bumps
- Overall, a little better traction in the rear, leading to more understeer

This is a guess, it is a semi-informed guess, but based more on theoretical understanding than actual experience. I'd be interested to see how it would do in the real world.

Buy them while they are on sale. Is the install easy? If so throw'em on and see how it feels. You can always change back and wait for the others to arrive.

Stiff in the back, soft up front. At worse, it'll handle like a pickup truck.

You can also get the new shocks and wait to install them until you do all four.

Keep in mind that Toyota made the FR-S more twitchy than the BR-Z by putting stiffer shocks in the back...you'll get a different handling balance and possibly porpoising, should be fine on the street.

Is any of that substantiated?

I thought it was springs and shocks

Seems to be mostly rumors right now, the best source is here:

Car and Driver said: The Scion uses softer springs and stiffer shocks, and it has a sensitivity to driver inputs that makes it feel alive. Too much or too little throttle upsets the Scion’s balance, sending the car into an easily controlled drift. Its behavior reminds us of the dearly departed first-generation Honda S2000. It’s not impossible to get the Subaru to oversteer—deliberately timed and moderated inputs will coax the tail out—it’s just not going to catch you by surprise.

Thanks for the reference!

That sure is a rumor though - I'll wait until I see some part numbers, I guess... This is just ;like the 2 vs Fiesta thing, nobody is really sure what the differences are under the skin.

Well, the Konis are totally sold out at TR and on backorder now, so that makes this a moot question. I tried a couple other vendors and they said the same thing. Anyways, thanks for the answers.
