It is scheduled this year for April 24, and I see tickets for sale online. Didn't GRM have an article or post about tips on doing it right?  I've never been and I'm thinking about taking my 11, super car nut, son for a day.

Here are my more specific questions:

I'm not sure I can make it all of the days, which is the best day to go?

How early do you get there?

We live about 3 hours away so we could come down in a day (seems long), or hotel, or camp. Pros and cons vs. camping and hotel?

Can you get in to see the pits? Or is it limited to the pit parking lots like at Mid Ohio? (That's the only other race track we have been too and that was a few years ago during a historic race)

thanks

I come with my buddies and camp, often beginning Thursday night.  It's awesome to be there early and enjoy a peaceful night, and then the stark transition to paddock partying Friday and Saturday night.

Bumping this for others curious.

I buy the 3 day camping ticketing since I build it into a vacation yearly and fly in for it. If you camp, bring all your camping stuff(food grill, earplugs, toiletries). Oakwood isn't far but you probably don't want to venture out. Camping is the real fun. The car friends and after hours meet ups with with racers and other spectators hanging around. Sleep in till 8am and wake up to race fuel and cars barking to life. I highly recommend Friday night through Sunday morning at least.

You can get in the pits between runs typically but of course be respectful to teams doing their thing. It's a laid back event but there are still competitors.

If you've never done it and only live 3 hours away it may just turn in to a tradition for you. I've been going for over 20 years from when I grew up in Oakwood 5 minutes away  and still don't miss it now that I live 4500 miles away. It's basically an interactive racing museum with sights , smells, and sounds. Pretty awesome.
