Asking for a coworker. He just picked his up last week, his first day driving it to work he hit a pothole. $1200 to fix it, 19" wheel and tire, now he wants to see if he can downsize to a 17" wheel, preferably something stongish like a Sparco Terra. We drive the same route every day, so its likely to occur again, and my 12' JSW with 17's handles rough road imperfections better.
I've done my searching, but come up short. Does anyone have any input if the 17" Sparco Terra barrel will fit over Golf R brakes?
Note: Sparco wheels are $100+ less expensive per wheel then an OZ Rally, so that's why he is leaning in that direction.

Some 17" wheels will clear the brakes, some will not. I think TireRack knows which do and which dont, and they carry Sparco wheels, so I would give them a call.

Most 17" wheels will fit and you run a 225-45-17 tire. I decided to go to 18's, so I run a 225-40-18, although I'll probably go to a 245-40-18 on my summers when I wear out my current tires.
Figured I wanted to give myself space for a BBK if I go that way in the future and there's not much sidewall difference between the 17's and 18's.
Not that this might be any help; but, I had 17inch RPF1s on a 2015 STI and it cleared the big brakes pretty well. I know there are a lot more factors that go into something like this like caliper size, offset, etc but maybe tirerack can pull through for you.
Is this for a winter wheel setup?
I have B7 Audi A4 wheels on ours, and they barely clear the calipers, as in wheel weights will be stripped off if placed incorrectly.
But they allow fitment of extreme winter performance tires. 215 50 17 studded Hakkas. Whee!

Just to save his 19's from getting mangled on NoVa roads that are constantly under construction. He has a TJ for actual snow driving.
