I checked out the web site but it doesn't seem to have been updated in awhile.
I don't particularly want to buy a laptop just for MegaSquirt, however, I could use an iPad for a bunch of other things including tuning.
Thoughts?

Mobi needs some sort of wifi network to make it work.
I got a cheap droid tablet and use shadowdash instead for display and msdroid for tweaking if needed. Works over bluetooth with adapter in the ms serial port.
You can share the wireless network from your laptop to use MobiSquirt to get around having to use their special serial to wireless adapter.
So far, I've not found any of the mobil apps to very useful compared to having a laptop in the passenger seat running a full copy of EFI Analytics.

Crap. That's what I was afraid of. Maybe by the time I actually get it in the car that will have changed.

For initial tuning and configuration you need to be able to access all of the settings and with a screen large enough to see everything. Once you get the settings tuned well enough that only minor tweaking and datalogging is needed, then the mobile devices/apps are a great solution.
I suspect that they will improve slowly over time, much like the tuning software on the PC's. Also the MegaSquirt systems themselves are much more powerful and the knowledge base for base maps and settings has expanded quite a bit, making certain vehicles much more easy to get up and running relatively quickly.
