3D printed is definitely intriguing. There's some C5 corvette models that were made, maybe another good source for a scale LS.

The Revell 97 Corvette has a great LS in it and goes for cheap because they over produced them and it's just a base model Corvette.

From a person completely outside the model building community, this blows my mind (in a good way)...people selling (and buying) individual model parts on eBay to modify kits, and you guys...engine swaps in models?!? just WOW! I can't even find the time to get my real, stock rallycross (hopefully) Neon running.
One benefit to doing swaps in a model is that they don't have to run when your done.

Good call, a quick seach turned up a bunch of those online for cheap. Might order one when I get home later. Thanks!
For accuracy you should install a yellow LED in the dash to simulate the inevitable 'CE' light being illuminated.
It just struck me that car model kits and parts are such a great value compared to model trains. I've been wanting to build a small switching layout but am a scenery addict. The cost of the structure kits alone would break me. This is still one of the cheapest hobbies there is.
In reply to ddavidv :
That's true. And I realized with some other hobbies that I had more fun building the thing than actually using it when it's done. With model cars, there is no using it when it's done, so I don't have to feel bad about enjoying the building!
Okay, primer stayed on this time... I guess let's try color?
Okay, some enamel red. That's sticking okay. Let's see if the black still exists under the tape or if there's a monster looking under there...
Not bad! Okay, let's let this cure for a good long while and then I'll polish and clear coat it.

Yeah it's going to be a challenge with the paint as the shell is one piece and not separate to make it easy!

I have a partially started one of those kits using the Yenko stinger parts including the rear window fillers. You can also make an accurate Fitch Sprint with it. The box art doesn't show it, but the Sprint logo is molded into the roof extender. The original annual editions from when the cars were new were Fitch in '66 and Yenko in '67. I built them both then.
In reply to TurnerX19 :
I was really thinking of building the Yenko out of this one. I keep re-watching the eposode of Jay Leno's Garage where Jay takes out his blue and white Yenko. There are also a bunch of old SCCA racing videos on youtube with Yenkos racing against British Cars.
I used to have a 65 Corsa Turbo many years ago that I never should have sold. Yes, It was the 180 hp turbo version. I could build a replica of that. Are there any 1/25th scale turbo set ups out there? I really bought this kit because I miss my Corsa.
In reply to Snowdoggie :
Yes the original issue that was buildable as a Fitch Sprint did include the turbo bits. I just dug into the model auto wreckers back lot to drag out my original builds. to refresh the gray matter, and I used the turbo in my build. Lower exhaust system is not present but the engine compartment components are still installed. Body shell is restorable too. It was one of my earliest respectable builds and was on display for about 20 years without dust protectionLower exhaust parts may still be nearby, I will look some more. Available cheap.
I am having a slow start to the box stock build, the paint gods struck on the AMT Avanti that I sprayed at the same time as the Tiger, so that one is back aside, and I decided to do a 1/32 Capri that will become scenery on the slot track. This is an MPC issue of an old Airfix mold, with lots of detail for 1/32. Also, unlike the Airfix version, it has some chrome.

A little more digging, and I found that both the 66 and 67 Corvair kits included the turbo set, as well as the Corvair engine in the "Blueprinter" 4 engine set. The engine in the "Parts Pack" set might include it, but I don't see it in any of the photos I have found. I did find most, maybe all of the unused turbo parts from my original build of the 67 which I built as a 140hp Stinger. I do not have the instructions, and a close look at the '69 kit I have shows that they sealed up the floor pan hole where the exhaust passe up to the turbo.
Okay. I'm getting confused with all the talk of engine swaps for round four. Can I get review of who's in on the box stock challenge.
BTW, the C5 FRC from Revell that I'm doing has a great LS in it.

I'm in. I will even dig out my AMX box and instructions from my childhood kit to prove it's provenance!

I'm doing two box stock builds!
Here's the color I'm going with on the Cougar.
Not quite as shiny as I'd like it to be, but not bad.
OK. I'm getting mistaken for all the discussion of motor trades for cycle four. Would i be able to get survey of who's in on the case stock test.
